“Great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

My son and I recently visited Durango, CO and stayed 4 nights at the Country Sunshine B & B. We had the Pine room, near the entrance, and it was perfect for us. Walter and Jodi are WONDERFUL hosts, couldn't ask for better! So helpful and friendly and not only is Walter a gourmet chef, he is also an excellent spider-killer! One thing I was really relieved about was that when we did need to leave the B & B and get out onto the highway to go into Durango, there was hardly ever any traffic, so it was quite easy to make that left turn getting out. I would highly recommend this B & B to anyone looking for a comfortable, peaceful place.

Not really sure how to add anything to the other fabulous reviews of Country Sunshine. I found this place because of the reviews and I can honestly say its the best use of Tripadvisor I have ever made!
The b&b is a little outside Durango in a secluded spot, the building and grounds are beautiful. The highlight of the b&b though have to be the staff. We were made to feel so welcome,it was like staying over at an old friends house. On returning from a meal out Walter greeted us with probably the best chocolate torte I have ever tasted, and we sat and chatted over a few beers. He is such an interesting guy and we couldve talked to him all night.
Everyone at Country Sunshine seems to genuinely want to make sure you have the best trip possible, and the little touches really set this apart from any other place that we have ever stayed.

We will be recommending this to everyone, and the only downside was we only booked for one night, won't make that mistake again!

After spending 5 nights at Country Sunshine B&B in July 2013, I am so excited to write the review for the outstanding experience that Walter, Jodi and the rest of the staff there created for us.
The Food:
Without a doubt, my favorite part of staying at Country Sunshine was the daily gourmet breakfasts. Walter is so creative with his recipes that you will fall in love with dishes that you would never expect. From blueberry pancakes to lemon ricotta muffins and italian sausage fritatta, I was eager to wake up every morning to see what was for breakfast! It’s a huge compliment because we were on our honeymoon and enjoying all the amazing activities that Durango has to offer, but even then, breakfast was still a major highlight of our day!
Walter also fixes dessert every night, which was always just as delicious as the breakfasts! In addition, there is a constant supply of freshly-baked chocolate chip toffee cookies- what more could you ask for? After I fell in love with his cooking (and gained 5 lbs in the process) I was so pleased to find that they keep a folder with extra copies of Walter's recipes. Walter assured me that if I wanted a recipe for anything that wasn't included in the book, Jodi would email it to me promptly.

The Location:
Located just a few miles north of Durango, Colorado, Country Sunshine is in the perfect area where you can enjoy the serene landscape outside the city, but it’s still only a quick drive away from all the restaurants and shops in town. It was also perfect for us since we spent most of our days north of Durango at Durango Mountain Resort and in Silverton. Being a little farther north gets you closer to all the great activities in the area. During our stay, we took the scenic narrow gauge railroad to Silverton, went mountain biking at Durango Mountain Resort and rented ATV’s in Silverton (twice because we loved it so much!) and went on a sunset jeep tour in the San Juan Mountains. We wish we could have spent another week there so we could’ve enjoyed the local hiking trails, gone horseback riding or ziplining.

The Room/Amenities:
With the experience of staying in 5 star hotels in the US and in Europe while on vacation, I can honestly say that I had the best overall experience at Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast. Our room was stocked with luxuries including an oversized jetted tub, a sheepskin rug in front of a beautiful stone fireplace, a dressing room with plenty of storage, and in the Golden Oaks room we had two walls of windows so we could open the blinds and see the lightning as thunderstorms rolled in at night. We also enjoyed the unrestricted use of the hot tub, the outdoor fire pit, hammocks, and watching the multitude of bird species that frequent the feeders next to the dining deck. Although these amenities really impressed me, what really made the trip were all the small touches that Walter and Jodi put into their B&B. From always having fresh cookies, fruit and popcorn to pop available, to providing refrigerator space which was stocked with wine, beer, soda and water, to always being helpful in making any reservations or inquiries you sought, it seems like they thought of everything. You can tell that they truly care about providing quality service to their guests.

Conclusion:
Overall, Jodi, Walter and the entire staff at Country Sunshine should be commended for providing such a memorable experience for their guests. Initially, I was apprehensive about booking my honeymoon stay at a B&B, but I could not be more pleased with my decision! Staying at Country Sunshine felt like staying at home (just a much more luxurious version of home with gourmet breakfasts, housekeeping and outstanding amenities). If you are considering staying in Durango for any period of time, please consider Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast- I guarantee you will fall in love like I did!

We only stayed one night and wish we could have stayed longer. This place is beautiful, peaceful, like a refuge with all your needs taken care of. The food is out of this world and the rooms very cozy. The hosts aim to please in whatever way they can. If you are a birder you will be blown away. Highly recommend this B and B.

What a great spot. Country Sunshine is a few miles outside of Durango, but the upside is that it is a tranquil place, very relaxing and quiet, except for the train four times a day! Walter and Jodi are great hosts, very helpful and generous, and the standard of the cooking is truly excellent. Having breakfast on the deck surrounded by the Colorado wildlife and having great views over the valley was one of the best memories of our holiday. I look forward to returning, but in the meantime we have some of Walter's recipes to keep us going!

Best B&B we've ever stayed with. If your travels take you to Durango, Mesa Verde, etc., the Country Sunshine's secluded location, beautiful grounds, great rooms, excellent amenities, and food fit for royalty are not to be missed. Jodi and Walter are great hosts with their knowledge, maps, books, and even restaurant menus handy, plus their "unofficial" host Norma was also helpful and entertaining too. Flocks of hummingbirds and finches entertained us on the patio while we feasted on Walter's gourmet breakfasts in the mornings, chocolate cookies all day long, and scrumptious desserts in the evening (cookies, desserts, wines, craft beers, bottled water, and sodas are all complimentary too). We were only able to stay 2 nights because they were booked full for the upcoming weekend, but next time will plan our trip further ahead of time and stay longer. If you're riding the narrow gauge train / bus, you'll have more time to enjoy breakfast if you take a later departure (even though Walter will get up early to prepare your breakfast if you don't).

We spent three days (much too short) with Walter and Jodi in Durango and loved every minute of it! Breakfast is delicious and individualized (to preferences as well as food sensitivities); dessert is served each night and fresh cookies are always on the table. The spacious indoor and outside areas invite you to stay and chat. They provide maps and advice on area attractions and foster a friendly and homey atmosphere. The downstairs fridge is stocked and the yard has many lovely sitting areas to linger and enjoy. We especially enjoyed breakfast on the porch and the peace of the hot tub. Walter is from Austria and my darling man could not have planned this vacation any better had he known this as I am a native of Germany. Walter's European approach to cooking and cooking skills are outstanding and made me feel like being at home. Jodi and Walter work very hard to welcome everyone and attend to every little detail. We would highly recommend a stay and are saddened that our time schedule does not allow a return trip soon BUT we are sure to be back!

Room Tip: Any room here will be wonderful.
