The outside of this place and the fact that it is tucked away in a strip mall does not do it justice. It remains hidden to the locals too. Our raft guide and bus driver hadn't heard of it even though it's right on Camino del Rio. We heard about it from a tourist from Nashville who's been here a few times and always makes a stop for breakfast.
Not sure how busy it gets because we got there at 6AM on a Sunday for a to go order to bring our dad some breakfast-in-bed. It was a large to-go order with limited notice and the staff was incredibly accommodating. The atmosphere inside is Durango-ed out with posters from all the annual Snow Downs, train decor, and even a model train that chuggs around the perimeter.
BUT THE FOOD! Oh wow, everything we tried was absolutely amazing and low-priced. They have a wide array of options typical of a diner, but I highly recommend any of the green chili smothered hash browns. You can get them with a variety of fixings including
meats and eggs or even as a side to some peanut butter pancakes.
I'm sad that it took us until our last day in Durango to find out about Oscar's. We'll definitely frequent it on our next trip. But seriously, if you are in town, skip the stale old continental breakfast and go to Oscar's. You won't be disappointed.
