“Nice Stay, Nice Property, Nice Price”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

This hotel is not new, and has no place to eat on site, but it is nice, clean, pretty views. The pool/spa area is very nice. There is no reason to pay huge prices for a newer resort when you are not really going to be spending your vacation indoors. It is too pretty to stay inside while in this area!
At check in, confirm that your room is exactly as you requested. We asked for a king, but did not get it. I cant complain though because we did not mention it, we just took what we were give.
Also, before booking with some online site, call Durango Mountain Resort and ask them if there are any specials. I normally use hotels.com but we saved a lot of money by going this route.

Room Tip: 1)At check in, confirm that your room has e/t that you were promised at booking -ex bed size 2) Book...

I heard about rennovations, so I was very disappointed with our room. There were no improvements and very dated furnishings. I will definitely call beforehand and request updated room before ever staying here again.

We just stayed two nights at Tamarron Lodge. I did not realize until I checked in and tried to get a room at the top floor that this is not a hotel but a condo building. You could tell it was in between seasons as the "front" entrance was closed. The person checking me in took 45 minutes to help me get from a second to third floor room (which was still not the top floor, since he had to check with the reservation person and physically look if the rooms were cleaned). The room was practical if people like to make their own meals, it had a full kitchen and a dining area, as well as nice views facing the canyon. Everything was clean (except stains on shower curtain) but very outdated. The hotel is about 20 miles outside of Durango and there is nothing else beside this lodge, no restaurants or shops. I was expecting to use the golf course, since it is an advertised feature of the lodge, but found out that it was closed until May and then it is only open to owners/members of the club. The information sheet mentioned that there would be daily towel service and beds would be made, but we did not receive that service.

Room Tip: Ask for canyon view and top floor

We spent 6 nights in Tamarron Lodge. We were two families and each took a "double" unit.

Both units were not as clean as we'd expect. Kitchen utensils, silverware, etc. were stained.

Our unit was quite old. There were at least 8 different thermostats (I kid you not), and to this day I'm not sure which one does what. The AC was terrible. When we did figure out how to control it, it turned out that there are no AC vents in the loft bedroom, so it was about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house.

The freezer was leaking into the refrigerator. When we complained about that, they brought us one of those tiny fridges "as a replacement".

Some of the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, some less so.

The location is pretty, though you will hear the traffic on the 550 when you sit on your back porch (in some of the units at least). The building itself is nothing to write home about, looks like a bad example of 70's mountain lodge architecture.

Oh, and did I say no wifi in the rooms?

We will definitely return to the Durango area - it's absolutely gorgeous. But we will look for different accommodations.

This is the second time that we've stayed at Tamarron for a skiing vacation. We love the location - halfway between town and the resort. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. My sons love the indoor/outdoor pool. Our room has always been clean. We usually leave the room by 9 am for a day of skiing, and housekeeping has always been there by the time we return in the afternoon. We are an active family, so we never usually spend a lot of time in the room. We like that the rooms are spacious and that the views are beautiful.

We were pleased with the spacious room, the pool and spa are nice and clean and were tended to by people who made sure you were having a good time, and showed great guest relation skills. The package deal we got was great for the money and time frame for a great weekend get away.
