“Wonderful Winter Wedding”

My wife and I got married at Dunton Hot Springs. We rented out the town and it was truly magical. We have traveled around the world and stayed in many of the finest hotels. The staff at Dunton is excellent, accommodating and just plain outstanding. We maxed out the resort with family and friends. The resort received universal praise from every guest. The setting is gorgeous, but the Chef, Dennis Morrisroe, was a key reason we selected Dunton Hot Springs. He may very well be the best chef in Colorado. The hot springs and each unique cabin provides a much needed rest in between meals. I highly recommend Dunton Hot Springs.

We are a long-time local couple and this was our 3rd trip to Dunton since the resort changed hands several years ago for "Lunch and a Soak". It was a quiet October weekday, and there was only one other couple in residence that day. We had the bath-house and outdoor springs to ourselves for a romantic getaway. When we called to reserve, we were asked if we had any dietary restrictions or dislikes, and Chef Dennis was so accommodating to my lactose-free request, he made a special portion just for me. Our lunch consisted of a gourmet feast: grilled quail, a wonderful Mediterranean salad, and several side dishes. It was literally "all you could eat", and when there were several quails left over after we had all eaten our fill, we were offered the extras to go in a doggie bag. As we ate in the rustic dining room by a crackling wood fire, we enjoyed getting to know the other guest couple and the staff, while watching snow flurries gently drift over the mountains. This place aims to cater to your every need, and will create one-of-a-kind activity packages. It is not cheap, but everyone deserves to splurge on special occassions, right? The hot springs themselves are fairly small and intimate, with an indoor bath-house and an outdoor soaking pool. The restored mining town of Dunton is now preserved as a luxury resort for those seeking the ultimate get-away.

This was our second visit to Dunton Hot Springs, in Dolores, Colorado. This restored mining town is a luxurious rustic resort, with very fine dining, soothing hot spring and fantastic views. The chef (this time and the last) was Dennis and he is amazing. 3 meals a day, perfectly turned out. Elk, lamb, salmon, wild boar. Delicious soup on a chilly day for lunch with excellent bread and butter. Freshly backed blondies and cookies are worth jogging an extra mile for, and the cheese platter at cocktail hour is one of the finest in the country. The staff will go to great lengths to make sure you have everything you need. Thanks especially to Eva, Dennis and Kara for providing us with another exceptional vacation.

My husband and I stayed at Dunton Hot Springs for two nights as part of a week long trip to Southwest Colorado and absolutely loved it. I'm not sure what the best part was-from the beauty of the surrounding area to the delightful hot springs to the staff who were willing to cater to our every need to Chef Dennis, everything was amazing. We even lucked out with the weather-the fall leaves were at their peak and the weather was beautiful!

Meals are served around a large dining table, and prior to meals you can relax, watch and chat with Chef Dennis as he prepares the food, and have a drink in front of the fire. I can't say enough good things about Chef Dennis. One morning for breakfast, I asked him to fix me an omelet of his choice. He prepared an omelet with asparagus, bacon, chevre, herbs, and truffle oil! I've never had an omelet as delicious as that!

Our cabin, Forge, was very comfortable and cozy. It had a great little front "porch" where we could sit outside and read our books.

There are a lot of extra activities that you can book, which can be quite expensive. Because we were not going to be there that long, we elected to just do some short hikes, relax in the hot springs and on the porch of our cabin. We didn't feel pressured to do any of those other activities at all, though.

The area is definitely secluded and you have to like the outdoors to enjoy Dunton. And it certainly is expensive, but it was worth it. If we get back to the area, we'd love to go back to Dunton for another couple of days.

We stayed at Dunton Hot Springs in late Sept., early October in Bjoerkmann's cabin. I say it is a once in a lifetime stay because it was the ultimate in pampering, luxury and fine dining while being quite a bit out of our pocket. The idea of staying in an old ghost town in completely renovated cabins was too much to pass up. Bjoerkmann's cabin has three small rooms including a wonderful bath. My husband enjoyed building a fire each night in our iron stove. We opened windows to listen to the waterfall at night. Highlights of our stay included soaking in the hot springs both in the bath house and the outdoor pool, massages, and the food served at a communal table by a wonderful staff. We can't say we would go back because it is pretty pricey, but we would recommend you try it for a few days. It's heaven!

We went to Dunton for our honeymoon and we LOVED it! FOOD: I am a vegetarian and my husband is not but we were both well-fed. (Dennis the chef especially knew how to prepare excellent vegetarian food!) CABIN: We stayed in both the Honeymoon and the Well House cabin...Honeymoon cabin was a little more intimate and romantic but we ultimately liked Well House a bit more because it was more expansive and had more room for us to put away our clothes...plus our own private bath/hot spring in our room! ACTIVITIES: we were there for 6 days and did many different things over the course of our time there---massages in the spa room (Gina was the best masseuse I think I have ever had); hikes in the area and rock-climbing; soaking in hot springs; day trip to explore Telluride; we even curled up and watched DVDs borrowed from the Dunton library (hundreds and hundreds of titles---amazing!) Mealtime was shared with the other interesting folks who visit Dunton, families, other couples, dog-owners, foreign tourists----don't get turned off by the communal dining---it's actually really fun and we made some friends who we might even visit some day in Dallas! SERVICE: Very helpful and laid-back, calm folks. PLACE: it's so amazing rustic from the outside and super luxurious on the inside....we might seriously consider going back for a family reunion or an anniversary----AWESOME DESTINATION for a very special occasion.

Unbelievable location, atmosphere and amenities. Chef Dennis Morrisroe is a master in the kitchen and a reason to go for the food alone. Unforgetable experience overall but the food is to die for.
