“The best campground yet.”
Reviewed May 5, 2011

We loved Mueller State Park. We have only been campers for 4 years but to date my husband and I think this is the nicest place we have ever stayed. We had camp site # 5. The site was very private. We were the last campsite on the road so we had company on one side and bathroom on the other. The site was not all that level so if you had a camper I would choose #4 it was a lot flatter. The bathrooms were fantastic. Had a laundromat which was much needed because we had come from the Sand Dunes and needless to say we had sand EVERYWHERE. The rangers were all very friendly. We were about 30 minutes from Colorado Springs. The park had nice trails although no dogs were allowed on the trail. One morning we had a bear run past our campsite. We had heard that he was also spotted again the next day. The view of the mountains was gorgeous. I got up early, made a hot cup of coffee and just sat there staring at them for a good 15 minutes. Wish I could do it over. Got pretty cold at night and we got a lot of these nuisance rain showers that would last like 10 minutes (I hear that is how it is in the mountains sometimes) When we left Mueller one day it was in the 60's and one hour later when we arrived at Garden of the Gods it was in the 90's. Dress in layers if you go out and about. The campground also seemed to have a lot of senior citizens. It was a very quiet peaceful place and we look forward to going back someday.

“Awesome Cabin”
Reviewed March 17, 2011

We spent three nights in the Spruce (3 bedroom) Cabin. This is nowhere close to “roughing it.” There is a furnace, gas fireplace, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, and on and on… The cabin itself is beautiful with a cathedral ceiling in the common area and rustic décor. The view from the deck is nothing short of spectacular.

There are three full bedrooms each with a queen size bed. The bedroom in the lower level is accessed through an additional sitting room making the lower level like a suite. There is a patio style seating area complete with a table and chairs outside the lower level. A deck over the patio area is accessed from the upper level. It is also furnished and includes a gas grill. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, flatware, pots, pans, and cooking utensils. All linens are supplied - bedding, towels, washcloths - right down to the oven mitt in the kitchen.

The only negative I can think of regarding the Cabin is that there is only one bathroom to be shared by six people. This requires some cooperation, but the bathroom is quite large and nicely appointed including a shower with an adjustable, handheld showerhead. We did have cell phone service, but there was no internet or television. Some might consider that a negative, but I thought it was a blessing.

Please be aware that a daily parking permit is required ($7 per day when we were there) and that you will be expected to clean up before departure. We were to run the dishwasher, wipe the counters, and remove the sheets from the beds; in other words, nothing unreasonable was required.

In my opinion this is near perfect family accommodations - multiple bedrooms, shared living space, access to outdoor activities for those who enjoy it, relaxing comfortable surroundings for those of us who are more comfortable in a leather chair beside the fireplace with a good book.

“Really nice campgrounds and facilities”
Reviewed September 5, 2010

We went tent camping here and were really surprised at how nice the place was. We are used to "backwoods" camping, i.e. no facilities and no designated camping spots, but we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet the place was. They have tent pads, and bear boxes to lock your stuff in as well as a picnic table at each tent spot. Shower facilities were nice, its $1 for a 4 minute shower, but no complaints as it was clean and warm. A little crowded for us but that was to be expected. Lots of hiking to do and they had activities for the campers too.

“Gorgeous Cabins at a Very High Altitude”
Reviewed July 18, 2010

We were expecting "rustic" and "basic" when we rented a cabin in Mueller Park. It was absolutely gorgeous. Immaculate, cathedral ceilings, large rooms, beautiful covered deck, enormous kitchen and great room with gas fireplace. Could not believe this was a State Park accomodation! The Park itself is also beautiful, and full of trails suitable for families with younger children. Not nearly as crowded as Rocky Mountain. Beautiful vistas, well maintained. The altitude, at 9600 ft, can be a bit challenging, but the park is so wonderful!

“loved the cabin”
Reviewed April 1, 2010

We stayed in the Pondorosa cabin at the park. The cabin was spacious and very wheelchair accessible. The 4 p.m. check in time was far too late for my taste, although the noon checkout makes departure leisurely.
