“A Grandiose Treat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

This is my first time staying at the Brown Palace and I must say it is an experience to savor. I had enjoyed a fabulous and lavish sunday brunch last year and did not notice the hotels splendor as I paid more attention to the abundance of food. Initially I thought it was a bit stuffy, but was enamored by the tea parties and the old british charm of the lobby. So as I decided to come to Denver for a last minute trip, I thought I should explore this historical hotel further. The staff was very friendly upon arrival, and I felt like I entered a different world. It is regal, a bit pompous (but in a good way), and, as the name states, very brown. The pictures on the hotel website do the place justice, and the rooms are just as charming as the lobby. I suggest staying on a higher floor as the lobby is in the center of all the rooms that wrap around it, all with a beautiful balcony on each floor overlooking the floor. I ordered room service and the service was impeccable, including a very courteous staff member and nice presentation along with a rose.

If you want a hip, trendy, modern vibe this is not the place for you. But if you want to try something different, sip on martini's and enjoy a bit of luxury give this hotel a shot.

Built in 1892, this building has many great qualities. The rooms are large, nicely furnished. Short walk to 16th Street Mall with shuttle buses taking you up and down the pedestrian mall. Or walk, always interesting people on the mall. The hotel has a huge atrium. They have tours on Wed and Sat at 3 p.m. I did not have time to take the tour. There is a nice write up on the history in the guest services book in each room.

I did have problems with getting hot water on the 9th (top) floor. The water had to run a long time.

Lots of detail in hotel to inspect, great antiques, make sure to stop and inspect the Ship's Tavern.

This hotel provides a unique experience back to the "gilded" age.

Room Tip: Go with upper floor rooms to get away from atrium noise and catch a view of Denver.

My husband and I stayed at the Brown Palace 12/28/12 to 1/2/13. The level of service and attention to detail was excellent. The lobby/atrium was decorated beautifully for the holidays. There was live music there every day. All the staff was more than helpful. We went to the scotch and cigar bar, and Shelle was very helpful with selecting a couple Scotches for my husband. The bathroom was not huge, but more than comfortable, well appointed, and used the space well.

As a Marriott Platinum member, the value for the points to stay was more than worth it. I would highly recommend to friends and family.

Visiting Denver for the New Year and decided to take my wife to The brown Palace for a
special dinner at the famous Ships Tavern.Noted for the Prime Rib.I orded the Prime Ribed
sandwich for my self.
We never recieved any bread prior to our meal.Although many of the tables around us were
recieving there breads.( we were hoping the waiter would stop and ask us if thwe needed any
thing else ,besides our drink order.
Once my meal arrived it looked GREAT.Unfortunatly it tasted tearable!.Like the oil was sour.
I left a large piece in the napkin.I was to disipointed to to do anything but wait for my wife to
finish her meal and pay the $80.00 bill.Ticket #4868 Table 12,

Having recently stayed at a Ritz-Carlton, I was expecting the same level of service from the people at the Brown. They were not quite that good. The room was gorgeous, with a powder room, a great bath and plenty of room for us to get ready and lounge. Huge TV and wonderful pillows finished off the great quality. Room service and drinks are expensive. The bars are great. A wonderful old building with a ton of history.

As a part of our wedding package, the BP offers you a free dinner and they recreate the top-tier of your cake. We decided have dinner and stay overnight there to celebrate our first anniversary and it was just wonderful! It brought back so many amazing memories and the staff was so sweet and accommodating to us (even though we were running late for our reservation). Our wedding planner even stopped in while we were eating to say hello! Such a great personal touch that really made a difference! The dinner was a 4 course meal and AMAZING!!! Foie gras is the BEST! The cake was JUST as delicious as my husband and I remembered it! We brought a lot of it home with us too! The room was turned-down with chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us. A LOVELY way to spend our first anniversary! THANK YOU BP!

The Brown Palace is a classic old-school city hotel of which too few remain. We stayed for three days with our two kids, and had many friends and their kids staying with us in other rooms.

Arrival and check in are high quality and smooth, with helpful and efficient valet, bell and front-desk staff. The lobby is beautiful but much of the time lobby seating is UNAVAILABLE to guests because the entire lobby seating is dedicated to the booked-in-advance high tea (which other posters have written about, and which is lovely to be sure.)

We stayed in a two-queen room which was large enough for two kings (and which should have had two kinds, always better), with a smallish bathroom. Everything in fine condition, although you wouldn't call the tub/shower combo modern. WiFi was surcharged and we did not have occasion to use. Televisions had a good choice of channels and were well-configured. Did not use gym, spa or business center, nor did we order from room service. Our requested wake up call DID NOT COME on the one day we requested it, which is annoying to say the least.

The hotel is an (old fashioned) atrium hotel and noise from the lobby can and will drift up if you are directly on the atrium -- try to get a room slightly off the atrium if you can.

We had brunch in the brunch restaurant and it was truly excellent. Had drinks once in the Tavern which is a bit of an odd ball room -- a bit of a dive bar feel to be honest, but with a very interesting drinks menu including a big selection of high-test Belgian beers. There's food there but we did not partake. We had dinner one night at the Palace Arms restaurant and it was fine, noting that we had a special event menu rather than the general a la carte menu. Did not go into the Palace Arms cigar bar space.

Brown Palace location is fine -- short walk to most downtown Denver office towers, the civic center and the Denver Art Museum.
