The Brown Palace is a classic old-school city hotel of which too few remain. We stayed for three days with our two kids, and had many friends and their kids staying with us in other rooms.
Arrival and check in are high quality and smooth, with helpful and efficient valet, bell and front-desk staff. The lobby is beautiful but much of the time lobby seating is UNAVAILABLE to guests because the entire lobby seating is dedicated to the booked-in-advance high tea (which other posters have written about, and which is lovely to be sure.)
We stayed in a two-queen room which was large enough for two kings (and which should have had two kinds, always better), with a smallish bathroom. Everything in fine condition, although you wouldn't call the tub/shower combo modern. WiFi was surcharged and we did not have occasion to use. Televisions had a good choice of channels and were well-configured. Did not use gym, spa or business center, nor did we order from room service. Our requested wake up call DID NOT COME on the one day we requested it, which is annoying to say the least.
The hotel is an (old fashioned) atrium hotel and noise from the lobby can and will drift up if you are directly on the atrium -- try to get a room slightly off the atrium if you can.
We had brunch in the brunch restaurant and it was truly excellent. Had drinks once in the Tavern which is a bit of an odd ball room -- a bit of a dive bar feel to be honest, but with a very interesting drinks menu including a big selection of high-test Belgian beers. There's food there but we did not partake. We had dinner one night at the Palace Arms restaurant and it was fine, noting that we had a special event menu rather than the general a la carte menu. Did not go into the Palace Arms cigar bar space.
Brown Palace location is fine -- short walk to most downtown Denver office towers, the civic center and the Denver Art Museum.
