“Things need to be updated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

Stayed there during the triple digits temperature highs and all the wildfires. Initially, our assigned room had a non-functioning air-conditioner. We reported this to the front desk but waited + no one showed up to assess the situation. Went to the front desk and talked to the other front desk staffer - Doug (I think) - and he personally followed me back to the room, checked it out + moved us to a room with a functioning A/C. YEAH! The hotel is old + run down. Carpet is worn and incapable of looking clean - bring your slippers. Room is a little dark but workable. The breakfast was good but the breakfast room was warm + the addition of fans were not helpful. We ended up eating in the mezzanine as it was much cooler and brighter. Having a shuttle was so helpful - we returned our car a day early + used the shuttle to get us to the airport. We were grateful for the room change - but later discovered a dirty rag on the shower curtain rod and a big pill (looked like a huge vitamin E) on the floor beneath the desk. Got to wonder about the cleaning services.

Room Tip: The balconies are over-rated. Weather too hot to make any use of it + you hear all this freeway noi...

In desperate need of a revamp, including some new bedding. The bedsheets were grey, & so creased I couldn't believe they had the nerve to use them. Grotty bathroom didn't like using it. Stained carpets. I wouldn't rate this hotel any higher than a two star. Breakfast was the best thing about this place. We booked this for a one nighter after landing at denver airport, glad we hadn't booked it for any longer.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your stay. Although the hotel was completely renovated in 2010, we are constantly working to maintain that fresh appearance. I will pass on your comments regarding the condition of the sheets to our housekeeping manager. Thank You.

I was surprised to see how highly this hotel was rated. It felt a bit run down - older, a bit dingy, and the carpets made us feel like we should have tried to avoid walking barefoot more than necessary. We also felt compelled to open up the bed with the lights on to inspect before climbing in. Also, there was not enough parking, such that when we returned to the hotel late, they told us to just park in the neighboring Mexican restaurant's parking lot. Sure enough the next morning, the car was not towed or vandalized, but parking questionably always makes me nervous, especially in an unfamiliar city driving a rented car. But, the room was inexpensive, the internet worked, and we had a free bowl of cereal in the morning (the hot breakfast was rubbery sausage and powdered eggs left out buffet-style). Oh, and there were multiple vents, fans, and intakes running in the bedroom. We could turn off the bathroom fan and the air conditioner, but a large air intake vent was out of our control. When both it and the air conditioner were running, it sounded like we were in the engine room of a ship. We don't mind white noise for sleeping, but the room was loud.

I found that the rooms weren't that bad, but it seemed a bit pricey compared to other places I have been to on my trip.

The first thing what I saw, when I entered the room was a dirty bathroom door. It looks like blood tears over an area of 1 square ft. It is hard to believe that the cleaning staff have not seen it. However, I complained at the front desk and after a short while cleaning staff came and cleaned it.
In general the rest of the stay was fine, except that a few things in the bathroom need to be repaired.

The service, amenities, and ambience of this hotel are what I might expect of a $45/night motel, but not for the money we paid. Specific shortcomings:

- Breakfast is a sad affair in an old, musty conference room. Basics like butter were sometimes missing, and the coffee was weak and lukewarm. The only fresh foods are bananas and apples; otherwise it's just watery eggs and sugary muffins, and cheap donuts.

- While it's a non-smoking hotel, our room definitely smelled like old cigarettes. We switched rooms shortly after arriving because the A/C wasn't working. The staff were very nice about this, and the A/C in our new room worked, but the funk and the musty smell was present in both rooms.

- A safety issue: The fire alarm went off while we were there, and I'm thoroughly unimpressed by how the staff handled it. First of all, I only saw 2 staff members throughout the entire thing, and they didn't even seem to care that an alarm was going off, even as firemen rushed into the building. There were lots of young kids in the hotel on school/sports trips, and they just lingered in the lobby playing games while the alarm was going off, assuming it was a drill. It ended up being a false alarm, but in the case of a real fire, somebody should be guiding guests like these outside! Unfortunately nobody seemed to care - I pity the fool who stays here when there's a real fire.

- It took about 45 minutes for the free airport shuttle to come. This wouldn't be so bad if there weren't 3-4 vans at DIA that say "Best Western" on them but don't *actually* go to the Best Western! I'm 6 months pregnant, and waiting 45 minutes in the heat while every van tells you that they are not going to your hotel, is extremely unpleasant.

- There are a Wal-Mart and several fast food places nearby, but that's about it. If you don't have a car, you wont see much of Denver from this place.

- We got a glimpse into the kitchen on the way to breakfast and it looked *dirty* -- enough to make us go out for breakfast the next day.

- The carpets and chairs in the breakfast room and lobby could really use a shampooing.

The front desk and the manager provided excellent customer service. They make every effort to provide for the needsof customers in this recently renovated old hotel. However, it is an old hotel and there are some limitations with what can be accomplished. In compensation you'll get free shuttle service to a long list of locations including the airport so you can go without a rental car. You are close to the RTD. There's plenty of shopping and restaurants across the street including Panera and Walmart. There's laundry, fitness room and hot breakfast on site.

This hotel does accommodate traveling U12 sport teams and is travelling family oriented.

Very good for the price. I'll be back.
