“Good Location, Okay Hotel”
Reviewed November 7, 2008

There is nothing wrong with the Sheraton. It is right on the 16th Street Mall, and in easy walking distance of the main downtown attractions (museums, sports arenas, state buildings, LoDo). The rooms are secure, and reasonably comfortable and quiet.
That being said, this hotel is not special. There are no robes or slippers for the average guest (The desk staff said there are some available, but they never did bring us any, despite our many requests). The pool is outside and heated, but there is not hot tub. There is a sauna and a decent exercise room with bikes and treadmills. It is in the tower building and a very long walk from the plaza building.
The food prices are very high, and you have to pay $10/day for a fridge. You also have to pay to use the ethernet in your room (about $20 for high speed daily, 11 for low speed daily). There is free wireless in the lobby.
In our room the showerhead was very poor and sprayed everywhere. The bathroom sink did not drain properly and "chugged" all the time (very annoying).
There was no ventilation in the room apart from the fan under the windows.
The bedcovers are the old-fashioned polyester kind that probably have never been washed. Expect to feel a bit germaphobic while here.
Bottom line: this is an okay hotel to be based out of, in a reasonable location. HOWEVER, it is not a good hotel for spending much time in. The average guest room does not offer robes, slippers, fresh air, a good shower, or clean-feeling linens.

Alright look this place is screwy.

Three, yes three, elevators later we were from our car to our room. 1 elevator to the lobby from the garage. One elevator down to the walkway to the Tower. Then an elevator up to the 18th floor where our room was. Super fun... Talk about "Dude, where's my car?!"

So the hotel was nice enough. Perhaps after the renovations are done it'll be even better. We had a decent view. Beds were comfy. Location is great. One entrance somewhere was right on 16th St so the free bus came by. Plenty of restaurants etc within walking distance too. The room itself was laid out a bit weird. Open the door and to the immediate left was a sink with the coffee maker and a closet. Then the two beds face the windows. TV in one corner, table & chairs in the other. Then as you continue through the room the bathroom essentially backs up the room with the sink by the door.

Problem was, when we walked into our room I swore it was like 85 degrees. We had somewhere to be though so we dropped off the luggage and chalked it up to hauling bags through the trip to our room.

When we got back the temperature difference between the hallway and our room was just too much to handle. The maintenance man came up to "fix" it. Well after he worked on it for a good 30mins and said "Well I can't actually figure out why it's not working but the air coming out is cooler. It's already down to 78 in here." Thankfully it cooled off outside and our room was almost a tolerable temperature. The thermostat set to below 60 degrees and "cool" the whole time.

Next issue is that our tub just would not drain. It took literally 25mins after I was done showering before the tub was empty and my husband could use the shower. So we called downstairs about it. Someone obviously came buy because the little disc you flip to open & close the drain had been "moved." Other than that, well, it only took maybe 15mins to drain the tub the next two mornings. I guess it was fixed as well as the A/C.

Only other thing was that the room was just dark. After the sun was down we had the one lamp by the table and a light by the beds that had a very harsh compact fluorescent bulb. They do sell the softer ones, oh wait they used that by the desk...

Really honestly for the location and the fact that the staff was nothing but friendly I would stay again. I just hope that the remodel helps the basics like A/C & a draining tub. The location was wonderful though, there's better but plenty that are worse.

  • Disliked — Non-draining tub & non-working A/C

Stayed here for one friday night.
Excellent service from desk staff very helpful and polite. Lobby looks beautiful and has free wifi unlike the rooms, which will charge for wifi. just like they sneaked in a charge for a third person staying.

Room was spacious and luxurious and provided for a very comfortable nights sleep.

gym is excellent modern equipment and good sauna. outdoor pool was nice but a little cold outside to enjoy fully.

try for a room to the front of the hotel for a better view as the back of the hotel was not that beautiful.

Prices are quite reasonable if you search around and book at the right time.

definitely recommended to friends.

Clean rooms and great staff. But I have 3 problems with the hotel....

1 - Charging $2.00 per call on a 800 number that was less than 5 minutes. WHO IN THE WORLD CHARGES for local and 800 numbers that are less than 30 minutes? This hotel does!

2 - Charging $11 per day for internet access. No free wireless nor wired internet service anywhere in the hotel. The business center also charges for internet service, unless it is less than a measly four minutes.

3 - No pressure at the shower - had to call and get it fixed. This should be tested by cleaning staff - do they not clean the tubs - if they do - do they not use the shower heads - if they do - do they not report problems - and let the customer find out - when they are "needing" to use it.

Overall, resturant in hotel was good, but the nickel and diming attitude is just old fashioned and unwanted. Sorry, but I was not impressed with the $4 bottle of water in my room either.

  • Liked — Close to Denver Convention Center
  • Disliked — Paying for Internet Service and 800 calls.

I stayed and attended a conference at this centrally located hotel. There were announcements around the hotel saying that it is going to be renovated and certainly my room, although spacious and adequate for my four day stay, will benefit from this. The entrance, lobby and conference facilities are grand enough and all the staff here very helpful, the grandeur does fade as you go to the rooms. The room cleaning people didn't do a very good job even though I didn't give them much to do. My air conditioning was OK which was just as well because none of the methods of adjusting it had any effect. I was next to the ice machine which was rather noisy when used, as were all the room doors (why can't people consider others when closing their door)?. I did eat in the restaurant twice and although the food was OK, except for the steak, it was slow in arriving (even though there weren't many people in). This hotel is on 16th Street which apart from a free bus running regularly over its length, is pedestrianised. There are many places to eat along here and the ones I tried were good. The conference facilities were good, as was the food etc. that was provided for the attendees. All the other conference rooms (that were always busy) looked impressive as did their food. Good attention to detail here. I would attend a conference and stay here again, especially as my company was paying. The room rate I got was apparently good.

  • Liked — Spaciousness
  • Disliked — Noise from Ice machine and other guest doors

We spent one night at the Denver Sheraton and were disappointed. These were our experiences. When we checked in we were assigned a room which smelled of smoke. Our second room was an improvement, but was still dank and musty and had a wonderful view of the air conditioning system. Though marginally better, this room left a lot to be desired. The carpet was very stained and dirty. The light bulb next to the bed was broken (not burned out, but shattered) and the poorly soundproofed room was located near the elevator. Conseqently, we heard the comings and goings of other guests throughout the night.

We do favor Starwood properties and generally select this chain if available. However, this hotel does not represent the chain well.

Decent hotel that as many reviewers pointed out could use some updates, the location is great to the mall. Free bus service is something every city should have, just step out the door and off you go!
