I can honestly say I don't think I've ever had a better stay than our recent stay at Castle Marne. My wife and I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before, so we weren't quite sure what to expect exactly. But our stay here more than exceeded our wildest expectations.
The Castle itself is a beautiful old sandstone manor house that was lovingly restored by the current owners after years of abandonment. They salvaged as much of the original everything as they could and repaired and replaced what they couldn't. The house itself is on a quite quiet side street not far from downtown Denver and is well located for seeing things in the core of the city. The furniture and decor of the house is largely period appropriate and feels instantly comfortable and familiar, like staying in your grandmothers house. The rooms themselves vary from cozy to gigantic with various appointments, but all the rooms are immactulately clean and well kept. We stayed in the Melissa room, which one of the smaller rooms but it was quite comfortable for my wife and I. Unless you're on a tight budget I'd definitely recommend spending a little bit more for a bigger room though, not because there was anything wrong with the room we were in but just because the bigger rooms are just that much more interesting and unique. We had the opportunity to see some of the other suites as part of the Open Denver event and were just blown away by how beautiful the whole house was. The highlight is definitely the stained glass peacock, visible from outside of the house when lit from inside. An original installation from when the house was built, it's a beautiful peace of artwork and a neat place to sit and hang out for a little. There's also a well tended and beautiful little garden around the house that would be a lovely place to spend some time when the weather is nice.
The staff at the Castle Marne were all amazing to deal with. There's 3 generations of family working here, and the employees all care just as much as the owners and their family that your stay is comfortable and that every detail is taken care of. We ended up getting a lot of good recomendations for things to see and do from the staff, and we could have spent hours hanging around talking chatting with everybody working there. From afternoon high tea to late night coffee and cookies, puzzles and board games and opportunities to mingle with the other guests or spend time on your own, there's something for everyone here. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of edibles coming from the garden of the house, fresh home made baked goods and coffee and were highly enjoyable.
Our stay at Castle Marne was definitely a highlight of our trip, and if we're back in Denver again we will most definitely be back.
