“cash only, no special decorations, but fantastic entertainment”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

My husband and I stopped in after a Rockies game to hear the live music we know is regularly playing. The main part of the bar is pretty small and was so crowded that we went to the other side. There was a server there who was right on top of things, so we never had to wait to order. The music wasn't as loud there, so we could talk, but you could still hear pretty well.

They only take cash here, but there is an ATM if you forget to bring cash before you arrive.

The restroom is only one toilet, so there can sometimes be a wait, but it's not a big deal. Actually, you wait right next to the stage, so you get a great view of the band. Not too shabby.

“Do Not Bother”
Reviewed October 19, 2010

After reading all the positive comments here I was looking forward to passing a night here. Visited on a Monday night, totally and absolutely dead! Two people in and one was the barman. Music far too loud and obviously no atmosphere. Not in a particularly attractive area of Denver. At least the local hobos after asking for money wished you, “have a good night”, even when refused.

“Perfect little spot for a drink and live music”
Reviewed February 19, 2010

I'm glad we found out about El Chapultepec! This is the kind of spot my friends and I like to hang out in and we had one night in Denver. Our server at Wynkoop Brewery gave us 2 reccomendations, and when she said El Chapultepec was a dive bar with live jazz we said "Where is it?!". It was a Sunday night, so the place was practically empty but the band was having fun and sounded good. Full bar, live music, no cover charge (not sure if that's always the case)...what more could you ask for??

“Dive Bar with Class!!”
Reviewed January 18, 2010

At first glance, you think this is just a dive bar....but as soon as the music starts, you know this is something special. A lot of music greats have passed through El Chapultepec over many years. Very un-pretentious, friendly, and non assuming. Reasonable drink prices and inexpensive Mexican based appetizer menu. Try to play pool if you dare. Recommended!

“Our favorite jazz spot in Denver”
Reviewed June 8, 2009

I guess El Chapultepec is a restaurant, though I really don't remember what the food is like... But the scene and the jazz is a real favorite of ours. The best jazz talent in Denver plays there, and the grungy mexican diner setting somehow enhances the feel of the place for that. And El Chapultepec was cool long before LoDo was even remotely cool, long before its gentrification and the arrival of Coors Field, etc. If you like live jazz in a funky, informal setting, this is a great place to go.
