Strings is located in Uptown or some may call it City Park West, it is an interesting drive. I recommend the valet service since parking can be difficult in this city/residential area. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and I would recommend seating on the main floor versus upstairs. Our server was attentive but not intrusive and really knew the menu.
We had the carpaccio for an appetizer and two nightly specials, the pasta carbonara and the bone-in rib eye, followed by crème brulee accompanied with a bottle of Malbec. The carpaccio was prepared tableside with raw onions, capers and a horseradish sauce, which was good but the combination made it difficult to taste the beef. The pasta carbonara was made with carmelized onions, which is not traditional and it overpowered the dish. Finally, the ribeye was served much rarer than what we ordered. Oddly, for a restaurant of this caliber the presentation of the dishes was average. The wine list is reasonably priced with a fair selection and the total for the meal was $138.
Overall, this is a great restaurant for a dinner conversation or a business meeting as the service is excellent. However, I would recommend ordering from the standard menu and avoiding the nightly specials, which could use some improvement.
