When I first moved to Denver, I rented this apartment around the corner from Pete's Kitchen and quickly noticed that this place was never empty. The sign over the door said "Open 24 Hours" and the place was packed around the clock, especially just after the bars and clubs let out. I do not live in Denver anymore, but I just had lunch there yesterday with my family and the food was great as always. I mean "great" like the rare old dying breed of Mom & Pop sorta diners from the 50's with heaping mounds of amazing, well crafted, well buttered food meant to fill the gullet, put a smile on the soul and of course: clog the arteries. The clientele can be a little "gamey" at certain hours of the night being just off Colfax, but the food is always top notch and embarrassingly cheap! Besides the basic diner fare available there is a super savory selection of Greek dishes to choose from(since "Pete" is Greek). My favorite is the Chef's Breakfast Special served all day long, which includes 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, mound o' hash browns, biscuits & gravy, and a heaping side of meat(I usually opt for the gyros style lamb). This breakfast is huge!- comes out on a huge platter, like the same size platter your grandmother brought out the Thanksgiving turkey on! This is the perfect place to get that solid ballast for a full day up on the slopes or just to kill that comfort food crave. If you are cruising up to Summit County from the airport, or just freshly relocated(like everyone else!) this is well worth the side trip.
