My husband and I always seek out unusual places for breakfast whenever we travel. We are looking for eateries that use fresh ingredients for imaginative dishes in a friendly atmosphere with excellent service. We found all of the above at Sassafras in Denver. The chef hails from Louisiana and puts his magic Southern touch to dishes like Eggs Sardou and Deep South Benedict. Do not go if you are looking for standard fare like pancakes or omelettes. Make sure you try the homemade jams, sausage, bacon and Chunky Monkey bread.

Delightful and friendly. We both had the Eggs Sardou and toast. The bread was homemade. VooDoo, berry and spiced pear jellies all made on premises. They also make their own sodas--I had the pineapple and it was great. Service was very friendly. Everything very fresh. Highly recommend!!

A friend and I had breakfast at Sassafras and it was a real pleasure. It's in a classic old house in a quiet Denver neighborhood. The dining area is small and cozy. The staff is casual and friendly. Growing up in Texas, I love good down home cooking and this is it. The country breakfast of eggs, homemade sausage, grits, and biscuits was perfect. I had to pass up the Deep South Benedict with pulled pork and collard greens and pickled pepper jam. Next time. They are open only for breakfast and lunch so we're already planning a lunch there. I want to try one of my favorites: shrimp and grits. Lots of tempting stuff on the menu including handmade milk shakes. WOW!

Sassafras, the one on 26th Ave in NW Denver provided a very tasty excellent breakfast. It was oysters benedict. It had some thick bacon and was quite yummy and fairly priced. Eating al fresco was beautiful under the nice trees, although a bit noisy from the traffic on 26th Ave. Nothing you can do about that. The interior and even the exterior is warm and friendly. Wait staff was attentive with about being cloying. I definitely am coming back and bringing friends.
