“Fresh sushi and secluded dining”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Blue Sushi Sake Grill provides a great selection of lunch specials. The wait staff provides great customer service. The fish taste fresh. The prices are great for downtown restaurants. The seating is not too crowded and solo diners can easily dine here not worried about group dining or large crowds intruding with privacy.

“Great new sushi place with the perfect happy hour”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

This has quickly become not just my favorite sushi place in Colorado, but also my favorite Happy Hour place. The sushi is without a question some of the best I've ever had (and I spent 11 years in San Francisco). The atmosphere is fun and trendy, the lunch and Happy Hour deals are awesome, the drinks are absolutely delicious, and the staff is friendly and knowledgable.

+ Itchy Seabass. I usually never order seabass, but this was one of the best, most decadent things I've ever tasted.
+ Black Tuna sashimi. I have never had anything like it, and I bet you haven't either.
+ Hattori Hanzo saketini.
+ Ahi tuna tacos.

This place did an amazing job of creating a modern, trendy Japanese-American feel. The "sake bombers' lounge" really does have a lounge-like feel to it (think cool lighting, modern decor, and ceiling art with an old-school air-drop bomb with a pinup model on it). Basically, a great place for a fun lunch, happy hour, or dinner date. It would fit right in anywhere in New York or Los Angeles.

Great selection of sake, with some delicious affordable options. Recommended:
+ Tozai 'blossoms of peace' (sweet)
+ Tozai 'snow maiden' (unfiltered)
Some of the best martinis I've ever had, too. Definitely try some of the sake ones:
+ Hattori Hanzo (cucumber vodka, sake, fresh lime, simply syrup) - light, refreshing, slightly sour.
+ Apple Saketini (apple vodka, sake, cranberry, fresh lime, simple syrup) - not too sweet and not too sour, taste like real apples.

Don't be fooled by how trendy and fun this place looks. It has some of the best, most authentic sushi around, with fresh fish flown in every day. (And great tenderloin, too.) I don't think there's a single thing on their menu that isn't delicious, but here are my favorites:
+ Itchy Seabass (the most amazing baked seabass on spicy crab).
+ Black Tuna sashimi (tender walu marinated in a secret black sauce).
+ Ahi tuna tacos (sweet and spicy, tender, heavy on the tuna, delicious).
+ Yellowtail jalapeno sashimi platter (your classic yellowtail jalapeno, but with better fish).
+ Ceviche-style white fish sashimi platter (different from any sashimi platter you'll have, probably because of the delicious lime juice).
+ Black dragon roll (tender eel, black caviar, awesome eel sauce -- I had it without the cream cheese and loved it).
+ River rock beef tenderloin (pieces of tender beef on hot rocks in a jalapeno ponzu)

They have a regular happy hour, a late-night weekend happy hour, and a half-day Sunday happy hour. It includes a ton of food and drink options, including $3 large house margaritas and $3 sapporo sake bombs--need I say more?
Monday-Saturday: 4pm-6:30pm
Friday+Saturday: 10:30pm-midnight
Sunday: noon-8pm
There's a good selection of rolls for $4.50 and various grill options between $3-7.50. I recommend trying these first:
+ Spicy edamame - $3
+ Blue balls (tempura-fried spicy crab balls) - $4
+ Cherry bomb (tuna and jalapenos on rice tempura) - $4

two maki (rolls) -- $12
one maki & nigiri $13
one maki & sashimi $15

Also, I have to say, they did an amazing job with their website and social media. It's not something you see with too many restaurants, especially sushi ones.

“Very good sushi, excellent happy hour value”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

We've come here twice now and each time the service is prompt. The sushi is tasty and the happy hour value cannot be beat in Denver, especially in LoDo. One of my top choices for sushi in Denver (and Omaha).

“Great value”

Go there for happy hour prices. Half off sushi. Very good service and friendly atmosphere. Take the 16th shuttle if the weather is bad.

“Beautiful restaurant, tame sushi”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

The restaurant is very beautiful (note the large aquarium visible from bar or restaurant area). Our seat in the window had a great view for people watching, but we were freezing thru the whole dinner. Our service was great, and the happy hour prices were allowed even though we were sitting in the dining area (note: sit in the bar and get great happy hour deals). The sushi itself was the only let down. Although fresh, nothing was noteworthy for flavor or appearance. We ended up at a different sushi place the next day to get our sushi "fix" and it became even more obvious that we had been non-wowed at Blue Sushi.
