The new building houses terrific exhibits on Colorado history. It still needs some work, though, to add some additional exhibits.

This new facility offers a wonderful overview of Colorado's past. It includes interactive exhibits as well as excellent research support. There are special events throughout the year, including tours led by knowledgeable experts.

Based on some of the reviews here we didn't know what to think, but our family (two adults, two boys under 10) had a fantastic time at the museum. It's a brand new beautiful building and they're still growing into it, but we spent more than three hours exploring the place. The exhibits are just the right mix of education and play. The state map with the "time machines" were a big hit with the kids (there's an entire second floor balcony that gives you a view of the whole map, to respond to an earlier post), and the large multimedia timeline of Colorado history in the lobby might have been my favorite part. I could have sat there and watched that all day.

While we were there they had two live "performers": one guy who was demonstrating how to make an arrowhead with just a rock and an antler (wow, cool) and a woman (who seemed to be a professional storyteller) talking about what it was like to visit the Lincoln Hills recreation area. Both of them were excellent and really brought the history to life. Very well done.

The adults AND the kids in our family all had a fantastic time at the museum. We were there first thing on a Saturday morning, and we had the time and space to really go over the entire museum. I'll admit it would have been less fun if the place was packed with a thousand kids on field trips. Definitely plan when you visit.

We took my mother-in-law for a visit to the new museum. We had visited the old museum, and frankly, it was not very good. Thankfully, the new museum is really enjoyable. There are quite a few sad things we have done as a nation and country, and Colorado's history is intrinsically tied to it. The Time Machines in the entry are pretty impressive to start with, and the displays are very interactive and informative. The museum just opened, so their other exhibits and areas are not yet available, but will be in the near future (fall of 2013 for the next one). We spent 3 and a half hours there and saw almost everything there is to see. Plenty to keep the kids entertained, but informative and engaging for adults, too. Hopefully we can learn from the past...

For a history center, I'd expect a lot of historical pictures in the lobby and hallways. Seemed more like a cold federal building. Wasn't impressed with their research center. Found more in the actual cities than going to one central location in Denver. Was disappointed. Thought the food was overpriced in their restaurant for what we got.
