Owner description: The canvas was his ally. The paint and the trowel were his weapons. And the Art World was his enemy. Discover an American Master at the Clyfford Still Museum, home to the world's most intact public collection of a major American artist. From October 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the Clyfford Still Museum will display more than 260 of Clyfford Still's works on paper in the Museum's largest exhibition to date. With very few exceptions, paintings will not be on view in the Museum during this time.

Amazing and unique museum. Its very interesting being some where that only shows one artist. The architecture of the building itself is art

“One of the key abstract expressionists uniquely displayed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

You don't expect to find a principal of the AbEx movement here on the edge of the prairies. But Still was a child of the upper west. His early work, 30s Depression, is as an American Picasso. The bulk of Clyfford Still's work though, is equal in stature to NYC 50s icons Jackson Pollack, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, and Hans Hofmann, and it is beautifully displayed in Denver. A good walk through this gem is still less than an hour, and well invested.

“Unique Treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

It is such a unique treat to visit a museum built specifically to show one artist. The building is just gorgeous and I can't wait to go back as the museum rotates the artist's work. Thank you Denver!

“Pleasant hour”

I'm not a huge fan of abstract expressionism but still enjoyed the museum. The gallery spaces are light filled and showcase the paintings. The museum is small and honestly the admission price seemed a little high for what is there. Still, worth a visit.

“World-class single artist museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

If you enjoy art, you will be glad you found the time to visit the Clyfford Still Museum while in Denver. It is absolutely worth the minimal effort required to tour the galleries. If you are a lover of Abstract Expressionism, especially the American vernacular, it is worth traveling out of your way to see this museum at least once. My belief is repeat viewings of Still's canvases pay dividends in insight and appreciation. If you are an art buff and Clyfford Still fan, then you are already acquainted with the CSM, and have probably visited at least once.

I was vaguely aware of the artist Clyfford Still and his work before I visited the CSM for the first time. One year later, I am a member of the museum and visit once or twice a month. I am so grateful this institution ended up situating itself twenty minutes from my home. Come check it out.
