Owner description: The canvas was his ally. The paint and the trowel were his weapons. And the Art World was his enemy. Discover an American Master at the Clyfford Still Museum, home to the world's most intact public collection of a major American artist. From October 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the Clyfford Still Museum will display more than 260 of Clyfford Still's works on paper in the Museum's largest exhibition to date. With very few exceptions, paintings will not be on view in the Museum during this time.

This museum is one not to miss! I have seen images of Clyfford Still's work before, but never up close. It is rare to see the work of a great artist at such close range --- literally - there's no boundary between you and these (in many cases enormous) masterpieces! Clyfford Still's works of Abstract Expressionism are nothing less than amazing. Also - it's right across from the Denver Art Museum - so you can visit both of these great venues in the same trip.

This is a really interesting museum- I knew nothing of Mr. Still, but then right before opening, the museum was allowed to sell three paintings for it's endowment. OK, not big deal. But then I read that Sothebys and Christies were fighting over doing the auction. Interesting. Then, I read what the paintings sold for and was dumbfounded- so dumbfounded I bought a two year membership and we have been several times. I send out of town visitors there and they are all amazed. It might not be your favorite art, but it is displayed very well with lots of information about the artist.

but if you don't get excited by this artist, then its a yawn. the city seems to have gotten way bent out of shape b/c they got/bought the exclusive rights to the material. but if you've been to MOMA, sigh.

I like and enjoy art and museums. While I found this museum, (dedicated to the works of just one artist) interesting overall a lot of redundancy in the paintings and totally unsure what makes some of them worth millions. Interesting enough for one visit but a return visit is doubtful.

The art was far better than I imagined. It was some of the best art I had seen in Denver. The architecture of the building, with its natural light, allowed the art to shine. Also, right nearby the Denver Art Museum so you can do both. Don't miss this clever little museum. Grab a meal (salad) at the nearby Mad Greens where they also have very good wine by the glass.
