Owner description: The canvas was his ally. The paint and the trowel were his weapons. And the Art World was his enemy. Discover an American Master at the Clyfford Still Museum, home to the world's most intact public collection of a major American artist. From October 14, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the Clyfford Still Museum will display more than 260 of Clyfford Still's works on paper in the Museum's largest exhibition to date. With very few exceptions, paintings will not be on view in the Museum during this time.

“A gem that belongs somewhere else”

We went to Denver only to see this museum. It is small, and unless you are an art history major, you need maybe two hours to see the whole thing. The painting exhibit is on the second floor and is exceptionally well curated. There is a lot to see on the main floor: you can watch conservators working and see Still's materials, writings, and personal things. There is also an interesting interactive historical panel nearby. This museum really should be in a bigger city but Still was right, it is best to see only one artist's work at a time.

A gallery dedicated to the work of one man. Stunning building and I have more of an understanding about this approach to painting after my visit.

This is a gem. If you are at all interested in learning about one of the most interesting artists of the modern era - visit this museum. Even if you don't know who Clyfford Still is, if you are interested in art, you will want to visit this museum.

“Thrilled to see Clyfford Still!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

We made a special trip to Denver to see the new Clyfford Still Museum, and were absolutely blown away by the collection on display. Arranged in retrospective style, the works by the reclusive Abstract Expressionist show Still's commitment to emotion and the power of visual expression. The collection includes over 2000 works on display in part: next time you visit, you'll see other works now in the on site preservation vaults. Not to be misssed. And take in the delightful Denver Art Museum right next dooe.
