The Tavern Uptown is one of a few "Taverns" around Denver. The one in Uptown is usually not too crowded and has a lot of both indoor and outdoor space.

We had several lunch visits at this historical tavern (The Tavern - Uptown at the corner of 17th Avenue and Pearl St), the most recent just this week. They have a truly great selection for being labeled as a Sports Bar, which they must live up to given the atmosphere, adult drinks (lots of beers on tap) and the large screen TVs throughout the place.

Lunch selections include: appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, fish, tacos, pizzas and items from the grill. There are vegetarian selections and they will prepare your food even if you throw things at the server, like "I'm lactose intolerant, so no cheeses and dairy in my food please ... or can I substitute this with that ...". Super flexible kitchen to say the least. We had fish, salads, and burgers, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The servers kept
coming back asking if all was in order, plus kept refilling our glasses. I just wish it wasn't a "working lunch with colleagues and customers" - but happened later, say dinner time, so I could have sampled some of the local beers as well.

I must mention that this is a "Colorado institution" consisting of seven locations, family owned and the themes throughout the small chain: " .... through all locations include spacious yet cozy lounges, fireplaces, outdoor patios, numerous HD TVs and high-end architectural features..." (according to their website). So if you are in the Denver area, be sure to visit one of the Taverns, enjoy the food, festivities and hopefully your favorite sport event on the large
HDTV screens! Go XXXXXXXs! XXXXXXX is your favorite sports team).

As a single woman eating alone I felt completely comfortable. The sliders and tacos were terrific. The bartender treated me with kindness and I felt comfortable every day I stayed in the hotel to return by. Myself.

After a busy work day we wanted to go somewhere and have a couple margaritas and some decent food not to far from home...and after searching online we decided to give Uptown Tavern a try...and are so glad we did.

We got there a little after 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon and the place was fairly empty - we sat on the back patio. It was a little while before anyone brought us a menu or took our drink order because the wait staff was still coming on shift.

However, once our waiter (Aaron) did come on...we were very pleased with everything.

We ordered margaritas..and frankly, this place does margaritas better than many of the so-called Mexican places in Denver (Benny's, Lime, etc). The drinks during happy hour were 2 for 1 - for well and beer - with a slight up charge for the triple sec in our margaritas - but still a great value considering how good (and strong) the drinks were.

My partner ordered a burger...I ordered from the Twilight small plates menu - I got the sliders with fries and chicken nachos - a great value on each for just enough food to enjoy my drinks without getting stuffed on food. The fries were really good....my partner loved his burger. I would definitely order the full plate of the chicken nachos next time.

The place really started to fill up while we each had 3 more margaritas - and shared a delicious pretzel sandwich with a horseradish mustard. For 5 menu items and 8 margaritas - we paid $60 - which was a terrific deal!

I would definitely recommend this place for food and service!
