The gardens are wonderful year round--we like to picnic in the summer, and the conservatory is great in the winter. If you have young children, go to the children's garden in the summer time for wading in the stream.

The Botanic Gardens is one of my favorite places in the city, I even bought a membership so that I can visit as often as I want! The plants are constantly changing from week to week making each time a different experience. It's easy to spend an afternoon ambling along the pathways, sipping a cool beverage next to the Monet Pond, or having a picnic in hidden gardens.

Uncounted years ago, Denver built the conservatory for the Botanic Gardens. It has changed much over time. Today, there are tropical steps climbing to the tree tops Ducks have been added to a small water feature near the entrance.
The conservatory is designed to simulate the environment of a tropical rain forest. Warm air rises, cool air settles near the floor. Plants are set out in the region of the conservatory that is best suited for their natural growth.
It takes about 15 minutes to see the whole of the conservatory. Over time, Denver has added outside gardens also to explore. Being February in Denver; only the most hearty evergreens and plants were out. The groundhog had said "that spring was just around the corner" is coming true. Bulbs are just starting to sprout out. There were some snow flower bulbs that were already opened and in beautiful yellow bloom. We decided to get some exercise wandering the gardens and spent 1 1/2 hours poking around.
If you enjoy botany and landscaped gardens you should visit the Botanic Gardens. RTD provides bus service right to the front gate on the 24 line. Parking is a bit tight. I own a car, but prefer the bus for this reason.

No matter what time of year, there is always lots to see and do at the Gardens. The landscapes and individual gardens are gorgeous, enticing, and colorful. Private benches among the paths provide space for reflection or sketching. They have helpful workshops, a much anticipated yearly orchid sale, and a top notch summer concert series.

A very well organized and operated botanic garden with many different gardens representing different climates including an indoor tropical area of high humidity and diffused light. Hudson Gardens in Littleton is also worth looking into - it's a good venue and has a place for performances, events and weddings.
