“Fun & Lively”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

A fun location, Wash Park houses many eateries.... We ventured down to Max's to see and taste the place.
Nice layout with a back bar. Food was tasty as I had the small cesaer salad and little neck steamers. Fresh & punctual.
The fish and chips my friend had was plentiful and tasty as well.
Parking is 'look for street parking or valet."
Will return.

“i think i may *DIE* if i don't eat there again soon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2012

i moved to denver recently & often hear 'max's for happy hour?" well, today i took someone up on the offer-- WOW-- i had the happy hour specials of grilled calamari strips (on a bed of greens) and the goat cheese with walnuts & apples. absolutely mouthwatering. i am really picky after living in aspen for 14 yrs (read: food spoiled!) but this was just an amazing experience all the way around. we sat by the adorable tiki bar in the way-back. there is also a great outdoor seating area in the back with what looks to be a giant chimnea. the only thing i would change is to take out the freakin' big screen tv's everywhere....but i know in a sports oriented city like denver, i've got a better chance of seeing god. i really can't wait to go back!

“Good and Bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

We read about other diners' experiences with bad service, and while it took longer than we like to have a wait person arrive, the service was fine thereafter. The scallops dinner seemed a little underportioned, but the surf and turf--lobster and strip steak--was adequate. Interesting flavor for clam chowder; traditionalists probably won't like it. The caesar salad was also non-traditional and I was not favorably impressed with it. Don't ask for anchovies, they don't have them. We finished with the bourbon pecan pie, which was excellent. We enjoyed a fun atmosphere and would recommend trying Max Gill and Grill.

“Good Food + Good Service = Great Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2012

Four of us went to Max's on Gaylord street Thursday night. The place was packed during the time we were there (7:30 PM to 9:00 PM). We had reservations and were seated wtihin five minutes of arriving. The waitress came to our table within one minute of sitting down. The manager came to our table twice to ask if we were having a good time and asked if she could get anything. The waitress checked on us four times. I never thought the wait staff was "hovering" but they were always available.

I would like to recommend the lobster roll. Thisis served like a lobster "Po Boy" but the lobster was boiled and not fried. The lobster contained a lot of meat and was tasty. The fish tacos received high praise at the table. The tacos can be ordered with corn tortillas. I would suggest three versus two since they are a little small. However, small in size does not mean small in flavor. Three would be filling. The ribs come with a sweet sauce or a hot/tangy sauce. The special was all you can eat ribs. I ordered the ribs with the sauce on the side. I liked them better because you can taste the rub and apply sauce as you desire. We also ordered the BBQ calamari. Excellent. For dessert, the four of us shared a piece of key lime pie. My wife makes excellent pies (former state fair winner) - so, I will give the key lime 4 out of 5 stars :-)

We enjoyed the food, had excellent service and I would recommend the restaurant.

Tip: Happy hour from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM - great prices. Also, ask what the specials are before you order. Last night was all you can eat rib night. Yum!

“great atmosphere for NYE. food ~ eh.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2012

The celebratory atmosphere was great. Friendly staff. Balloons. Good music. Full restaurant. What was disappointing was the special menu for NYE. The lobster bisque tasted like cheese soup. No lobster in it. We shared the scallop entree, which did taste good. But was disappointed to see there were only two scallops on the dish when it came out. We told the server we were sharing, but she didn't mention the fact the portion might be too small. I've had appetizers with more scallops than that. Have had other good experiences there, so will return. But the food for NYE was a bit of a let down.
