Owner description: Known for its wide range of Native American art, this museum also contains the only major Asian art collection in the Rocky Mountains.

this is sprawling museum with an illogical layout causing some doubling back from time to time, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Enthusiasts of Asian art will appreciate a small but interesting collection of Japanese art and furniture. I also liked the small but well preserved collection of Northwest Indian artifacts. Didn't tour the parts of the museum that are most famous such as the Western and American Indian art. My favorite was the European art, especially the Berger collection -- really nice collection of 16th and 17th century European portraiture. Just when I thought I would fall over with exhaustion I reached the Bernadette Berger Discovery Library... thank you so much! I sat close to an hour reading and learning. Note: coffee shop close by; water faucets in the lav play music!!

It was a great exhibit- narrative, not just paintings hanging on the walls. They always have great temporary as well as permanent ones. If you want to go to the temporary exhibits, it's a good idea to get tickets in advance as they do sell out!

We spent an enjoyable afternoon meandering through the two buildings that compose this museum. We were especially pleased with a few current exhibits (Nick Cave: Sojourn and an exhibit of Navajo chief blankets and other weavings) and liked how the museum tied in its "Spun: Adventures in Textiles" with many pieces in galleries spread throughout the museum. Although I no longer have young children, I was pleasantly surprised at the multiple areas for family activities in both buildings.

This is an architecturally beautiful building. Very good permanent exhibits of Western and African art. I came with my 5-year old grandson and he had a ball in 4 special areas devoted to hands-on fun for children. There was convenient parking across the street for just $5 on weekends.
