Had the rare pleasure of seeing a longitudinal perspective of VVG at North America's only exhibit of his work at the Denver Art Museum. From the audio guide to the arrangement with complimentary paintings by VVG contemporaries, the emphasis was on his evolution and acquired skills leading to the final years of successful personal expression. And how nice to come out of the landscapes of grasses and butterflies to find the samples from the permanent collection of Western Art and their treatment of prairie grasses. Exquisite. Then a stroll to hear a discussion with Carlos Fresquez discussing two of his artworks and a chance to crate our own masterpieces at the Paint Studio, we left enlivened and like children carrying our art work home on a windy day. All around great Museum experience from staff to exhibit!

Museum had scattered seating areas to rest. Also several study areas and kid friendly rooms and activities.

Took the family over Christmas break. Very well done. Even the 3 yr old had a blast. Can't wait to go back when the rest of the museum is finished.

We visited the museum to see the exhibit "Becoming Van Gogh". This was a popular exhibit. The DAM had to stagger entrance to the exhibit every half hour. We arrived early and participated in the scavenger hunt activities the DAM sets up for kids within the museum permanent exhibits. Our hunt took us to the pre-Columbian art exhibit. The kids initially didn't want to do the activity but once we get them started they enjoyed it a great deal. We sat in the gallery and colored bird masks that were part of the exhibit experience for them. The hunt helped us kill an enjoyable 45 mins before the Van Gogh exhibit. We all entered the exhibit and used the audio tour. It's worth the price. And get the audio tour for the kids b/c the DAM set up a kids' audio tour. That might have been better than the adult tour. Great museum...

We visited specifically to see a wonderful temporary visit called "Becoming Van Gogh" -- but even if that hadn't been featured, the Denver Art Museum has a good collection that an art lover should see. The museum itself is somewhat confusing to navigate, but each exhibit area is well presented, with comfortable chairs and benches for viewers who want to sit and contemplate a piece of art (they even have small portable benches you can take around with you.) Time didn't permit us to see everything, so we can only comment that the European art section contains a nice representation of different periods, with a wonderful Monet currently on loan and some good Western art including landscapes by Bierstadt and Moran.
