My visit to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in City Park provided a virtual trip to Pompeii, Italy, which I've always wanted to see. Surprisingly, the exhibit's videos are fascinating, especially the re-creation of the day Vesuvius exploded. And the casts of the skeletons and bodies of the people who died are eerie, sad, and thought-provoking. My favorite objects were the 2,000-year-old items that seemed so modern--cosmetic bottles, a water faucet, gorgeous bronze pots and pans, sexy statues and frescoes. Well worth a visit to this exhibit as well as to the rest of the museum.

One of the best things about the Denver Museum are the temporary exhibits which come and are well attended by a hard-core membership following. From the planetarium to the IMAX to the diorama exhibits this Museum offers a lot to just about anyone's interest. Its proximity to the Denver zoo gives you a 2-for-1 visitor experience to a couple of Denver's favorite attractions

We specifically went for the "A Day in Pompeii" exhibit but ended up touring others while we were there. The exhibit was well developed and easy to walk through. The museum offers free wheelchair use. To check one out all you have to do is give them your driver's license. The chairs come in three sizes - S, M and L.

Fair warning, we went on a Friday which is apparently field trip day for the schools. If you don't want to deal with tons of grade school children I suggest going earlier in the week.

This Pompeii was excellent. The volunteers were wonderful. They obviously took the time to learn about all aspects of the exhibit, and wanted to share that knowledge.
