Owner description: The United States Mint offers free tours to the public Monday - Friday on the hour from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Mint is closed weekends and all Federal Holidays. Reservations are required and can be made on the www.usmint.gov site. Tours are limited to 50 visitors and fill up fast. Group reservations must be made two weeks in advance by calling 303-405-4759 and are subject to availability. Walk-up tour reservations are available at the Mint Tour Reservation Booth on Cherokee St. The booth is open M-F from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for reservations and stand-by tickets. Stand-by tockets are not a guarentee of admittance to the tour and ticket holders will be admitted on a space-available-basis. With the busy Spring/Summer season walk up reservations may not be available and stand-by tickets will be issued until they run out for the day. Security restrictions are high; a list of prohibited items is available on the Mint's website and on the tour reservation tickets. Plese read these guidlines before arriving for the tour. The Mint does not suppy any storage facilities. The gift shop on Cherokee is closed until further notice. A temporary gift store is set up in the Mint and can be acessed by the tour or through the Delaware Street entrance. Visitors wanting to enter on Delaware Street must check in with the Police Officer at the entrance window and will go through a security check before entering the gift store.

Although this is a 45 minute tour (after a 30 minute holding time to begin the tour it could be done in 15 minutes, you basically move through 3 rooms, the tour guides (Joe and Michael were amazing) talk a few minutes in each area, and than you can look at the production floor. We were able to see pennies and dimes pressed.

Do not bring children under the age of about 7, it does not move fast enough for that age.

You have to go through full security, they brag its better security than TSA. The guard that oversees going through the scanning was so rude to one man in our group that people complained to the tour guides. It was an older man and I don't think he heard very well, the guard actually yelled at him and asked if he was "going to be a problem and maybe I should throw you out now". The man was humiliated and I think I would have left. Hope at the end of the day the guard feels remorse over the way he treated an elderly person, it was totally unnecessary.

Regarding reservations - be sure to check back if your date is full, the times and availability seem to change, I only booked this 6 days ahead and got the time we wanted.

US mint tour was fun and informational. You can see from the 2nd floor overlooks where they are actually minting coins by the millions... yes I said millions!!!!! This is a free tour HOWEVER you need to make reservation at least a month or so in advance and security is tight. When they say no purses and bags they mean it!!! Leave that stuff in your car 'cause you're not getting in. They also have a great gift shop.. of course.

The Denver Mint tour was very educational, it didn't last long but one could see and learn a lot about coins during this tour.

We couldn't get in for a tour, everyday was full. i think that this governmental branch needs to step it up and hire more people to do tours or allow more people in the tours themselves.

I was counting on seeing this building and how our money is made, as was my son, but we were unable to do the tour.
You have to register online, you cannot just show up at the mint and get in, you HAVE to go online and register. What if people are not around a computer? They are out of luck?

I do not care for their system. I was very disappointed.
