Owner description: A key feature in the Denver skyline because of its gold bell-shaped dome, the Capitol Building, fittingly in the Mile High City, has a point located at exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. Free tours are available for visitors.

Although the dome is currently undergoing restoration work (it should reopen sometime in 2014), you can still take a tour to see a number of stained glass windows and a gorgeous building crafted from local materials. For a real touristy experience, take your photo standing over the mile high marker on its front steps. If you enjoy history this is a good place to learn a little about Colorado's history. Beautiful historical building and a must see on any visitors list

Many years ago the view from the top was an amazing sight to behold. If you enjoy history this is a good place to learn a little about Colorado's history. Beautiful historical building and a must see on any visitors list.

I hadn't expected to visit Colorado's state capitol building since I don't live on Colorado. But a friend (active in local govt) urged me to go and it was well worth the time. Even though we arrived about 15 minutes after the final tour started, we were allowed to join it and it lasted another 20 mins or so. The group was only four people before we joined. Even though I'm from Michigan, it was a learning experience for me. Neither the House nor Senate were in session so that probably shortened the tour a little. Our tour guide was a little inexperienced but still provided enough insight to make it worthwhile.
