We spent the afternoon browsing through the Tattered Cover bookstore. We seem to end up here each time we visit Denver.
16th Street bus stops right in front of it.
Two floors of books with frequent book signings and lectures.
Staff is knowledgeable and helpful.
It is what bookstores used to be

You'll feel like youre in a movie. Make sure to visit the Wynkoop St location (the 15th St shuttle takes you here). Very unique atmosphere for a store. It'll make you hate buying books on Amazon.

Great independent bookstore that has been around for a good while. Great selection across the board. We went to the Colfax store, always worth a visit to one of their stores when in Denver and know you are not sending your money to Amazon or Barnes & Noble, the money stays in Denver. The owner has been an activist for standing up against federal government intrusion into privacy rights.

Nice to see an independent book store still doing so well. Bus now runs much further down 16th St. so you don't have to get off at the old turn around point. Helpful staff. Excellent selection of books.

"The Tattered" has probably gotten a zillion great reviews as a bookstore. I work downtown and constantly see tourists having their photo taken under the store's banner. But perhaps not as many visitors realize that it also makes wicked good, generously-sized and reasonably-priced soups and sandwiches. Skip the pre-made sandwiches and ask the staff to make you one of the ones on the board, and you won't be disappointed. A half-sandwich is more than sufficient for lunch. As for the soups, they are uniformly tasty. A cup is large, a bowl is generous. Eat it there and ask for bread rather than crackers on the side, and you'll likely get a nice hunk of homemade, soft bread to enjoy with your soup. Finally, you'll see there are lots and lots of cookies, brownies, and pastries to enjoy. The cinnamon-dark chocolate chip cookie is a terrific, decadent little treat. So grab some food, find an empty spot, and enjoy a nice lunch in a pleasant Denver landmark.
