“Clean but loud”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2012

Staff was really friendly and being greeted by Clementine the B&B dog was AWESOME! The room was clean and cute, the breakfast was really, really good. The only drawback is that this property is on Colfax which is a major through fare and it was very noisy. It is near a hospital so there were sirens. The garbage truck went through the alley bordering the inn at 4AM. However, if you are a heavy sleeper or at the very least bring ear plugs you might be okay. It is very conveniently located to the capital and historic district and there are good restaurants nearby. I would stay here again but only with a pair of ear plugs.

Room Tip: Get a room that does not face Colfax

i spend some 70% of may days staying in hotels. I try to avoid them as much as i can. i always look for bed and breakfast or the kind.
the minute i read about The Holiday Chalet, i knew it was for me. the minute i spoke on the phone with Crystal, we got in love.
she is a gifted person, out of the box.
the house is like taken from a victorian movie.
i loved the place.
yes, the neigbourhood is not the best, with some homeless people and weird shops. But this is only going to change with the effort and investment of people like The Holiday Chalet.

i walked, by my self, from the B&B to the 16th Mall Street (2 miles aprox.) and back later than 9pm. the weird people is there, they just look at you and say "how ´r ya man!"
this issue is to blame the goverment, not the private businesses.

i Read the 3 "terrible" ratings on this web page and i noticed they are kind of old (2006, 2008, etc) the breakfast, today, is perfect, with different options of fresh fruit, juice, coffe, a selection of teas, etc.
the staff is very welcoming without being on top of you all the time.
it is safe, clean and stylish. so much, that they didn´t make me feel i am on a business trip.
i support this place and i suggest you to stay here.

Saludos.

We loved loved loved the service, breakfast and the staff was amazing!!!! We felt very welcomed!!!!! The owner even lugged our double stroller down from the second floor and outside for me!!!

The negative part was our room facing Colfax....noisy....sirens....people outside screaming all night.....not alot of sleep. However I am sure rooms towards the back of the house are probably alot quiter.

Oh and the owner is an amazing designer that has her stuff downstairs to purchase!!!!!!!!!!!!

The conversation around the breakfast table was deep into what each of the three couples were enjoying most about their stay at Holiday Chalet when someone asked, How did you discover this place? An Italian scientist who was in Denver for a convention replied, I Goggled cheap hotels Denver. Then someone remarked, It’s inexpensive, but it’s far from cheap. That brought agreement from the assembled guests that Holiday Chalet offers tremendous value.
We were in Denver for four days to reconnect with close family and Holiday Chalet made the stay highly memorable, both for us and for our family. First, we love the charm. This is a historic landmark mansion that has been converted to a B&B and decorated in period style. If you prefer modern, antiseptic, formula, predictable lodging, Holiday Chalet is not for you. But if you appreciate period style, tasteful décor, stained glass windows, and can look past the occasional chipped paint here or slight crack there, it is an enjoyable experience.
The basics are all there: comfortable, clean bed; good shower and towels; clean rooms; the best in-room coffee we have ever experienced (and we are highly travelled). Well beyond the basics are Crystal’s breakfasts. We had a choice each day of eggs any style, including omelets filled with our choice of goodies, pancakes and French toast, bagels and lox platter, and all were first class. But the true joy of our breakfasts was the conversation around the table. Maybe it was the people, or Crystal’s hospitality, or the comfortable, relaxed, homey environment, or all of the above, but the total breakfast experience got our days off to a great start.
Our visit was topped off when our relatives joined us for high tea in the Queen’s Room followed by shopping in Crystal’s boutique. The tea was a memorable experience in itself; servings of tiny sandwiches and sweets accompanied by our selections from over a dozen exotic teas, all served in a charming setting. The experience eclipsed the last high tea we had experienced, which was at Harrods in London. Then we left for home with a dress, and shrug, and various jewelry from Crystal’s collection. She is an accomplished designer and seamstress, and the prices for her fashionable custom clothes are reasonable.
We left assured that the memorable visit would be repeated. We will reserve room 23 for all of our return visits to our family in Denver.

Room Tip: Our favorites are 23 and 32

I often stay in B&B's while traveling for work -- usually works out well as young female solo traveler -- but I wish I had taken a closer look at the map before staying here. I spent two nights here while in town for work, and actually moved here after staying in another hotel downtown for several nights. The cab driver who dropped me off cautioned me not to walk around alone in the neighborhood, and in particular told me to avoid the bar on the corner. I felt safe while inside the hotel, and the owner was absolutely gracious and welcoming -- but despite the relatively close location to the downtown area, I felt it was best to take a cab every time (only about 7 bucks to the end of the 16th St Mall). I saw after driving around with a friend that the neighborhood just behind the hotel was absolutely safe, but I would not recommend this hotel for other solo female travelers.

Anyone else, however, should definitely consider it - my room on the ground floor, number 4, was spacious and charming, with a kitchen nook and separate little sun room that was great for getting some work done. The wifi was included and worked fine. I didn't take advantage of the breakfast, but the menu looked lovely.

Room Tip: Number 4 is large and has a kitchen and bright sun room -- but is on the ground floor and right next...

The hotel was charming and very inviting, Clementine greeted us at the door.
The room was on the third floor, reminded us of a time back in the forties, except for the modern luxuries, like flat screen tv, and coffee maker. The room was very large, and extremely clean and comfortable. We also had one of the best breakfast cooked to order in a long time. We travel quite a bit and it was just nice to relax in a home oriented place. We will be coming back, for sure.

Room Tip: bring doggy treats

Love this place! Every room is a little different with their Victorian charm. Breakfast is fantastic and you will have great conversations with the international crowd that tend to stay at this B&B.
Location is central and within minutes of every part of downtown including the convention center. I would not stay at any other hotel in Denver. I recommend this B&B highly.
