I read some of the other reviews and to complaints, I must agree and disagree - Yes to noisy outside (we were there on a Saturday night), to disabled TV (not that we really wanted to be there watching TV anyway), to sketchy 'hood (read drunks and homeless in the area); BUT no to rude, no to discourteous, no to rushed breakfast. We, spouse, dog and 91 year old m-in-law, found it beautiful, enchanting, and conveniently located. The staff (owner was off - Lea was in charge) was exception in thier concern and effort for us and especially m-in-law.
Very good rates, large rooms ( ours had an enclosed heated Florida room ), off or on street parking (we parked on Colfax Saturday overnight with no problems - if you feel you must watch your car, ask for an east room and park on High Street), great pet policy, fine breakfast. This great old Victorian charm is suitable to the extreme for them what have open minds.

Room Tip: Heat radiators should be turned down on the first floor level as they seem to over-heat as the steam...

I really wanted to like this B&B. The rooms are affordable, spacious and each one includes a kitchen. But the owner, Crystal, made it difficult to do so. She was not warm or gracious. The breakfast was fair at best. It is also located in an extremely loud, sketchy part of town right off of Colfax. If you are staying on a Friday or Sat night expect to be woken up all night with street noise.

The Holiday Chalet is a beautiful B&B. The cleaning staff were warm, genuine and very friendly. But others working there made my family and friends feel very unwelcome. My 86 year old grandmother was told she had to leave the breakfast area, and not in a polite way. This happened to a number of friends staying there. I would understand if there were others standing around waiting for a spot to sit, but there was no one waiting. And there are certainly more professional ways to ask someone to vacate their seat than saying "you need to leave". I might still positively review a B&B in an idyllic location, even if the service was brusk, but not a B&B on the corner of Colfax and High Street. It is a seedier area of Colfax, loud traffic, with fights breaking out in front of the hotel. In that location the charm and service would have to be excellent for me to want to stay there again. It is a more reasonably priced B&B, and convenient with private bathrooms and kitchens in most rooms. The decorations are quaint and beautiful. But I did not feel welcome there, had a very hard time sleeping, and would not want to stay there again.

Problem 1: The groupon I bought wasn't accepted, (but was transferable -which doesn't matter if you wouldn't want to stay there again.)

Poor customer service.
the owner was often rude to us and our party -and she rudely told us to leave breakfast two days in a row. The staff (Mary and Bella) were nice and helpful.

Non functioning TV / Broken Blinds
The antenna to our tv was broken, when we complained, they told us the tv was to be replaced that day. It was, but it didn't get installed. I installed it but didn't get any channels. Then we complained again, and Bella came in and couldn't find any channels either. In addition a few of the blinds were broken and wouldn't close all the way, making it hard to sleep in past 7am.

No Sleep
The neighborhood is rough looking. Each night there loud noises outside woke up us. One night it was fights outside and car alarms going off.

Good things
There was fresh fruit, cookies and tea available at all times. It is walking distance to Cheesman park.

I wouldn't stay in room 3 -the little room was fine (thankfully the comforter was warm enough!), but the bigger room stays too bright, and the small bed is too soft.

Holiday Chalet is located right on Denver's main strip, Colfax. Although bustling with traffic and people, once inside the Holiday Chalet, you feel at ease. We were greeted by the lovely and charming owner, Crystal and her delightful sidekick, her black lab, Clementine.
Our room was spacious - we had our own sitting room and kitchen, which was a pleasant surprise. The room was very clean and we were grateful for the two air conditioners.
Breakfast is served each morning and it's not your run of the mill bagel and cereal; Crystal is an amazing cook and we delighted in home made quiche, pancakes, etc.
We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard and appreciated how easy it was to walk to our destinations.
If you are looking for a memorable place to stay, by all means, check in at the Holiday Chalet! Crystal and Clementine are the best hosts, ever.

This Victorian bed and breakfast had nicely-appointed, self-contained efficiency apartments decorated with thoroughly homey floral wallpaper, lacey shower curtains, etc. Each room is unique -- ours had a sunny breakfast room in addition to the full kitchen, bath and bedroom. For breakfast (included in the price), I had bacon, toast and the crustless vegetable quiche -- it was so good that I had it all 3 mornings we were there. My companion had fruit and French toast. It, too, was so good that he requested it 3 mornings in a row.

The room was comfortable and fairly quiet, even though the inn is on a bus line and almost within sight of downtown Denver. Proprietor Crystal Sharp was personable, and she and her staff were appropriately attentive without being intrusive.

The Holiday Chalet is a low-key, affordable place that is ideal for couples. My only negative comment would be that this home, which is over 100 years old, could stand a bit of touch up paint in a few areas and a bit of glue on a few peeling corners of wallpaper.

But, all in all, it's a good "base camp" for a couple that wants to spend a few days exploring Denver after being fortified with a really good breakfast each day.
