Owner description: Comedy Works has been Denver's premier destination for the very best in stand-up comedy since 1981. As one of the nation's true comedy landmarks, we routinely attract the country's top comedians. We also enjoy a strong reputation for developing new acts and fostering a talented base of local comedians. Many of our homegrown acts have become major forces in the national comedy scene, appearing on Comedy Central, The Tonight Show, Craig Ferguson, and Last Comic Standing, which our very own Josh Blue won.

“Too Small For Wait Staff To Move Around....Very Slow Service”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

We went to the November 3, 2013 (Sunday) show. We paid $17.00 each to get in which was very reasonable. There may have been a 2 drink minimum but we never heard about it. We got there about 20 minutes before the show started. We were seated near the middle of the very small theater. We absolutely did not want to be picked on near the front, so the middle was fine and the view was good. However, the rows are cramped and it is difficult to get in and out.

We saw that the waitress was busier than Lucille Ball in a chocolate factory and I went to the drink counter to order some drinks, but was told we could only be served by the wait staff. It took us about 40 minutes after we ordered to get our food and drinks. My $9.00 margarita was served in a really small glass. My wife's $4.50 soda was served in a tall glass. It was impossible to get the waitress' attention during the show. The poor server had to weave in and out of the rows to serve folks and could not help but block patrons' views. We were not impressed with the set up for service.

There were two stars on the night.......Host Sam Adams....not the beer guy.....who was hysterical in a PG way that reminded us of Bill Cosby. They should have let him do the whole two hours. The other big winner was the funnel cake fries which were sweet and delicious and served in a big basket.

The attractive Lisa Landry would certainly benefit from a dictionary under her Christmas tree.....hopefully she will find that there are words that exist which are longer than four letters. She was much funnier than the angry at life headliner whose act could not end soon enough.

We are not critical of the wait staff......they were just put in a hopeless situation by the set up. We did not have the same problem others have reported with edgy management. Sam Adams, in my opinion, is a spectacular talent waiting to be discovered on a national stage. If you see him on the list of performers, you should go. A top notch set of performers can overcome every shortfall, but outside of Sam Adams, the comedy could have been much stronger.

“Small but intimate venue”
Reviewed October 19, 2013 via mobile

We were here for the first time to see Rhys Darby on a Friday night. The show was great and the location is right downtown. Was fairly cheap, although there's also a 2 drink minimum. A great perk was the parking; they give you a ticket so that you only have to pay $4 for the underground garage across the street. Its a fairly small room, so everyone is pretty crammed in there, but a tight space can be good for a comedy sure. Waitresses did a move job despite the close quarters.

“Good laugh & Great value for money”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Went one Sunday evening. First three acts were local performers and were pretty good. Headliner act (who sorry I forgot his name) was very good. We also had some very good snack food and we thought drinks were reasonably priced. Also impressed that all performers seemed to give 100% even though audience was small (<40 people). Jusy one small note was quite cold so wear something warm.

“Always a good time”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Saw Craig Ferguson labor day weekend and had a blast. To see a headliner in such a small intimate venue is so enjoyable. Have been here to see many shows with friends and have always had great service. Ticket prices are reasonable and the location downtown can't be beat.

“Great venue, Great acts, Great service, Great laughs!”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

I hear that they've recently done some upgrades, and I have to say "well done." Yes, it is in a lower-level, and probably used to feel like a basement, but no longer (other than the low ceilings). The decor is above-average for comedy clubs, in my experience.

They were well organized, got us in and seated in an orderly and speedy fashion. Drinks and food were served promptly, and the servers are professional and courteous. The food was your typical bar-food, and decent, but wish that they had more table-space, as our multiple beverages and food-plates didn't fit.

The comedians, all in all, have been stellar! From the M.C. to the featured acts, to the headliners.. home run, people! Favorite recent act was Garfunkel & Oates, HILARIOUS! They had us in stitches, as have the other comedians at C.W.!

I hear they have another location in South Denver, and we look forward to visiting that one, as well. See you there!
