On a southern CO trek, my friend and I stayed in Del Norte for two nights at the completely redone 1874 Windsor Hotel. We can recommend this hotel without exception. Extremely comfortable double beds, nice sized room, small sitting area, good shower, nice furnishings, wifi, large flat screen TV, desk. Everything is new, (except lovely antiques about the property) and done in subdued western period. We were given a tour by event coordinator, Jill, and, as a result, really appreciated all that has been done to save the Windsor, literally hours away from the wrecking ball. (It is now a non-profit, owned by the local historical society.) The restaurant, currently open for lunch and dinner, is excellent. They also have a nice, separate bar area. Complimentary coffee was available in the lounge area. The Management is extremely friendly and helpful. We hope they do well as this historic property deserves to live another hundred and forty years!

Room Tip: The double bed rooms appear to be the largest. However there is also an extra large king bed suite. All rooms are apparently very quiet due to the heavy structure of the building.

There are plenty of historic hotels in Colorado (ex: Boulder, Colorado Springs, Aspen etc), but the experience of staying at the Windsor is very special. The furniture in each room is very subdued, well chosen, and the rooms themselves are spacious. The restaurant was well decorated with white table cloths. The food was well presented on hot plates, (varied menu) and delicious (my husband is very picky).
There are 2-3 wonderful shops nearby and the locals are friendly.
Do visit Del Norte.

The hotel is unique and we enjoyed reading about the history of the hotel. Would have liked to have had coffee available in individual rooms but the lounge offered a nice variety of drinks. The rooms with queen beds were small, not very spacious and not cleaned well. Bathroom also had a very small sink area. Not big enough for two people to place their toiletries. We were disappointed that breakfast was not available. Our dinner was okay but not outstanding.

The Windsor Hotel is recently renovated to its 19th Century charm. Each room is unique and spacious. The restaurant is excellent with great service and reasonable prices. We stayed in Del Norte after visiting the Sand Dunes. It is well worth the drive.

Celebrating our 11th anniversary we decided to try the Windsor restaurant. We were truly blown away. My husband used to be a chef so we enjoy eating good food.
We started with the Windsor wedge salad, goat cheese polenta with pickle onion. Both were so fresh and flavorful. Then came our Rib-eye steaks. The steak is one of the best I have every had. Very tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. All ingredients are fresh and local..and you can tell in every bite. Thank you for a fantastic dinner!
