“High Lonesome is awesome!!”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

We just finished a seven night stay at high lonesome; we are a family of five with three kids ages 13, 15 and 17. The ranch is awesome! The staff is over the top friendly and makes you feel like family. We spent a day and half horseback riding and the wranglers were great. Very knowledgable about horses as well as the ranch and the history of the area. We spent a day shooting sporting clays and fly fishing with two very patient and incredibly knowledgable guides; all family members were able to hit at least two targets and catch at least one fish. We also spent a half day shooting archery and our guides patience continued as they provided helpful instruction that was not overwhelming. The ranch gave us use of a truck as well as a golf cart (the kids loved this) to move around the ranch to our various activities - amazing. The food is outstanding and prepared like an upscale NYC restaurant; Aunt Linda's breakfast are the best we have ever had. We had a totally customized experience that was tailored to our interests and provided sufficient down time for the kids to recharge. The accommodations are very nice and comfortable. The only consideration is the heat: western Colorado is high desert and temps can get up to 100 although with no humidity the comfort level is better than the east coast at 85. If you have ever thought about a different experience with your family I would strongly recommend and encourage you to visit HLR.

I had the pleasure of a long weekend to visit High Lonesome Ranch and it's sister ranch, the K barT in Meeker. Each ranch offers very different fishing venues but one thing they share are big, hungry trout. I caught many hefty gerth rainbow and brown trout, who were willing to take dry flies. My guide for the weekend was knowledgeable and friendly. We shared lots of laughs. The views were spectacular. The wildlife was abundant, with deer and even a bear seen during my stay. I stayed at the Pond House, a well appointed room and private bath awaited each night. The food was off the charts. Aunt Linda' s breakfast were absolutely delicious, cajun bacon and her homemade organic granola were some of the highlights. Lunch at the K bar T featured burgers made with HLR raised beef on homemade hamburger buns. The evening meals started with a cocktail hour with some really innovative hors douvres. Home made spring pickled and ranch cured prociutto, artisan cheddar cheese and dried sausages. One evening we had gruyere fritters and rubbard preserves, their version of "jelly donuts". Every night a three course meal was served. I could go on and on, the chef, waitstaff, left you completely satisfied and blissfully miserable. Evenings were finished with a fire in the fire pit and a night cap. A world class experience at a world class lodge, hosted by world class people, HLR!, well done! You can bet I will be back as soon and often as possible.
