The Old Homestead was the parlour house (upscale brothel) of the beautiful and famous Colorado Madame, Pearl de Vere. It was so called because gentlemen were entertained in the parlour while a runner was sent to the bank to make sure the guest was good for an evening at Pearl's. Mystery surrounds the life and death of Pearl de Vere. Who was she really? Who was her wealthy secret lover? Was her tragic death an accident or suicide? She was so well thought of that the whole town turned out and gave her a brass band funeral.
