We like small repertory theaters. The Butte Theatre does a good job.

My husband and I have been there many times, sometimes with a friend. Scripts can be from previous centuries so can be pretty corny, which is part of the fun. The cast is always excellent, and performances are done tongue-in-cheek. Audience participation in the form of cheering for the hero/heroine and boo-ing for the villains is encouraged, as is singing along. Plays are followed by an olio, an often hysterical bit of tomfoolery that includes all cast members. Refreshments are reasonable (sold by cast members), and the town of Cripple Creek is interesting. Prices are reasonable - I recommend you go, let your hair down, and just have fun.

We go to the Thin Air shows and they are silly, boiserous, and a really good value. The performers staff the box and concessions between acts, so make sure you bring cash because they don't have a credit card machine and don't have to time to help morons like me that didn't know that! Seating is pretty good, it's a flat room so if you get behind a tall guy its harder to see, but you can always buy tickets for the private tables on the side. The olio at the end is the best part.... so worth the money!

We purchased tickets to the perfromance of "The Christmas Donkey" thinking it would be fun to get away from the casinos for a little bit. We were amazed by the quality of the performance and the performers! The Butte is a small Opera House for sure but I guarantee you the personality and talent of the performers is not small town at all. You will not be disappointed after spending a couple of hours with these talented and funny people.
