“Good bread; service and staff questionable”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

We stopped for coffee and sweet rolls. No one in line in front of us. Service very slow; had to repeat our order 3 or 4 times. The cash register program corners you into paying a tip, although no real service is provided. The drinks took longer than normal to be ready. Although we had ordered and paid for sweet rolls, they were not provided. When I quietly and courteously requested our order, staff members were not very forthcoming, and provided the wrong order. So I again had to request our order, which appeared to be an imposition on the staff. Then, as we were getting ready to leave, one of the staff members came over and insulted us for having actually asked to have the food that we ordered and paid for! We are so bummed out; we were so happy to have a new bakery in town. We were looking forward to stocking up on fresh bread, but certainly cancelled that idea. What a shame. Skip this bakery and coffee shop. Get your bread at Clarks Market or Le Bosquet; it's just as good and the staff members are friendly!

“Great tea, great vibe”
Reviewed July 27, 2014 via mobile

Came here for early Sunday morning tea and pastry while the art market was setting up outside. Very nice staff. Great, relaxing background music. Interesting, tasty pastries.

“Maybe the next ascent will be better”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

First, let me say that the take-home bread loaves are amazing. The 'birdseed' loaf was some of the best bread I've had in ages. The bread gets five stars. However, lunch was not great. The iced chai was over-sweet and the spices seemed off. We later had to get coffee/chai elsewhere to get the flavor out of our mouths. Our food took forever to arrive, and my egg bagel sandwich was just so-so. There was a relish on top that was too-sweet.

“The Best Coffee is at the End of the Road”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

Lots of coffee spots in the little town of Crested Butte, so I am thinking perhaps the last person that wrote about First Ascent got mixed up or got a rare "mix-up-mistake". For at last, someone is doing coffee right in this town and that is at First Ascent at the end of Elk St. These folks are into making coffee like wine makers are into making wine. And what a super cool spot! This is a great place to hang and do some computer work or lounge about with your friends over a cup.

I say, if you get something that didn't taste good at this coffee spot, there must of been some mistake....so step up and tell them, because I'm sure they want your coffee experience to be excellent. Lord knows, on the 4th of July week in Crested Butte (the busiest week ever, and this year, the most people ever to be in CB) there can be a mistake happening easily, anywhere. Friends, just tell your service worker you think you got a mistake and let them make it right instead of berating the whole business online...Hmm?

“Definitely go here!”

I wish I had found this place at the beginning of my trip here. The coffee is great and pastries even better. Must try!
