“Most Romantic and the Highlight of our Honeymoon”
Reviewed December 28, 2008

Staying at the Crested Butte retreat was the highlight of our honeymoon. The managers were welcoming and we felt very much taken care of during our visit. The view from our room was magnificent and we were very glad to not have to stay in a crowded hotel with a bunch of college students. The managers went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure our stay was perfect. Having a hot breakfast cooked for you every morning was the best way to start off a busy day on the slopes. The atmosphere was very luxurious, with a comfortable "at home" feel to it which is exactly what we were looking for in a small town like Crested Butte. We read all the 5 star reviews before we booked our room and we were still blown away by our own experience. We will definitely be returning to the Retreat when we go back to Crested Butte.

What a great time! My husband and I decided we needed a mini vacation away from all the political ads on the television and radio so we decided on the Retreat. After only seeing the pictures on line we were so thrilled when we walked into the retreat. It is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Our room, Maroon Bells, was fantastic! My husband is cringing, because of all the new decorating ideas I have from staying at the retreat. The decor was very inspiring and the view from the private hot tub on our deck was great. We happened to be the only guests at the retreat our 3 days, we came in between seasons which was great for all the quiet we had! We enjoyed movies on the huge screen in the TV lounge and the fireplace in our room in the morning. The bathroom was luxurious. We would recommend the to anyone, especially for a quiet getaway. It would be a great place to enjoy with family and friends. Our hosts Jason and Allison were so nice and made sure we had everything we needed. It was nice to wake up and have breakfast ready, without having to go out. We are looking forward to visting during wildflower season next spring, and for fall colors next fall. Thanks so much for the relaxing getaway!!

We have just returned from our fantastic vacation at The Crested Butte Retreat. The staff is awesome, especially Allison, Jason and Ian. They do everything they possibly can to make your stay as enjoyable as it can be. We stayed in the "Castle" suite and it was fantastic. The hot tub is on it's own deck connected to the room. We slept with the windows open, it was cool and wonderful...of course we are from Texas so we could not believe the temperatures!! The bed was so comfortable, the views are amazing. We can't wait to go back. Every morning they offered a beautiful spread of food, they will make you anything you desire! Try the granola. You won't believe it. I had to get the recipe before I left. Allison and Jason will help you plan your hike and bike trips. They are knowledgeable about different trails and their difficulty. They also know restaurants and shops in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. The widlflowers are amazing in July and right outside your window. We highly recommend staying at The Crested Butte Resort!!! You will make some great new friends and truly enjoy your time there.

The Crested Butte Retreat was a one night stop on our journey from Vail to Telluride in Colorado. It proved to be such a treat, I wish we could have stayed longer.
We were greeted with wine(very good), cheese and biscuits, and told to help ourselves to coffee, tea and fridge contents(yummy). Our very large, beautifully furnished and comfortable bedroom had a balcony with hot tub and brilliant views on three sides.
The lounge areas(several of them) were equally superb and our breakfast, made to order in the open kitchen, was delicious. Jason and Allison Gillette were excellent hosts and deserve all credit for their wonderfully informal yet very attentive care. We felt like honoured guests in a beautiful home.
We spent seven weeks travelling around beautiful Colorado. Our stay at the Crested Butte Retreat was one of the highlights.

  • Liked — it was just a lovely experience-the whole package
  • Disliked — liked all of it but perhaps steep stairs could prove a problem for some.

After reading reviews on TripAdvisor and researching as best we could online, we booked three nights at the Crested Butte Retreat as one of two destinations in our honeymoon trip. While the reviews were great and the retreat's website looked very nice, we were not prepared for how TRULY wonderful, beautiful, warm, and accomodating this place would be! The retreat itself is in a great location and is so pretty - it's large and spacious, yet cozy, well-maintianed and decorated. Our suite (The Pearl) was gorgeous and absolutely perfect for our honeymoon - including a comfy king size bed, spacious and unique bath/vanity, sitting area, and large double-head shower, private jacuzzi and sauna - all with incredible views of the mountains, ski area, and the town of Crested Butte below. To top if off, the husband-wife management team was absolutely delightful and professional - they saw to our every need and answered every possible question about things to do in the area. Breakfast was delicious as we ate out on the back deck and enjoyed the views - relaxing to enjoy a movie on the big screen or playing games in one of the entertainment rooms is a treat for a couple or a family. We'll go back again - for anniversary celebrations and any other good excuse we can come up with! :) We highly recommend you book some time here - I can't imagine you wouldn't enjoy it as much as we did.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Retreat over Memorial Day Weekend. This trip was a birthday gift for my wife, and it did not dissappoint. The Retreat is in a residential part of Mt Crested Butte, about 200 yards from the slopes. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed (including a DVD player!). The common areas are beautifully decorated and exceptionally maintained. Breakfast was spectacular each morning, and the hotel management was very helpful and knowledgeable about the town of Crested Butte (just a 2 minute drive away).

I would hands-down recommend the Retreat to anyone looking for a romantic get-away in the mountains, regarldess of time of year.

My wife and I spent three days and two nights in early April enjoying local sightseeing and checking out stores, restaurants and a museum in the scenic town of Crested Butte Colorado while staying at the Crested Butte Retreat during a record winter snowfall. On our arrival after snowshoeing all afternoon on the large cross country ski trail network on the edge of town, we were warmly greeted by the innkeepers with minutes to spare before the end of check-in at 6:00pm. We were invited to store our snowshoes in the heated triple car garage while the innkeeper helped us to carry our belongings to our room.
We stayed in the nicely decorated, warm atmosphere and very comfortable Anthracite bedroom with a queen size bed, one of nine bedrooms at the retreat. Our private bathroom was spacious with textured stone tiling on the floors and walls. It had everything we needed and included very soft thick white towels and matching robes for each of us.
We were taken on a guided tour of the beautifully decorated common areas consisting of a large living room with a retractable wide screen TV with an assortment of recent and classic movies on DVDs, another living room on a lower level open area with a fireplace, sound system for listening to background music from an assortment of CDs, and access to a large deck for outdoor entertainment, on the next lower level, also an open area, was a well-appointed kitchen with granite countertops and spacious eating area with a long table for a large party and smaller tables located around the room for more private dining experiences. There was also a well-equipped exercise room complete with weight machines in a separate building off the wooden walkway to the main building.
For dinner that evening we had our choice of several places from which to choose in near-by Crested Butte as we walked down main street . Most places were inexpensive to moderately priced and the meals were good everywhere we ate.
For breakfast we requested omelets which were delicious. At my wife’s request the innkeeper taught her how to make an omelet which she greatly appreciated since she had been dissatisfied with her results at home.
We enjoyed our stay at the Crested Butte Retreat with innkeepers that made us feel like welcomed friends. We look forward to returning during the summer for some hiking and single track mountain bike riding.
