Our ski club visited Crested Butte, CO the last week of January, 2014. Our club usually books condos for our week long ski trips as our club members appreciate feeling at home with the flexibility of cooking dinner at home or dining out--the full kitchened time share condos allow for just that--flexibility. Our group of 4 stayed in condo #541, which had somewhat of a mountain view. 2 bd, 2 bath unit with a sleep sofa in the living room. Master bedroom with king bed. 2nd bedroom had 2 twin beds. The condo suite was cozy and nicely furnished--the kitchen was fully equipped and made our dinners "at home" pretty easy to put together. There is a washer/dryer combo in the suite that allows you to wash your clothes mid-week. We've learned not to overpack for ski trips (your bags could easily exceed 50 lbs and the extra charges that are applied to "overweight" bags add lots of extra $$$). Thus mid-week laundry day (and the Plaza supplies Tide and Bounce dryer sheets too, which is a nice touch!) The location of the Plaza was very convenient. We did have a view of the mountain between the buildings in front of ours. We could see the groomers on the slopes in the evening. The in residential shuttle stops in front of the Plaza on a regular schedule. The residential shuttle takes you to the base of the mountain's "transportation center" where you transfer from the residential shuttles to the city bus routes. Very easy to use the bus system. For example: Our group of 36 people had a "pub-crawl" during the week, and we used the shuttle and city bus service to get around. There is no need to rent a car if you're flying into Gunnison. Use the airport shuttle service--reasonably priced and you can enjoy the scenic drive from the airport to Crested Butte.
The Plaza's front desk staff and building management were very friendly and responsive to our needs. One of the condos experienced a water leak--management responded immediately, and moved the residents of that condo to another vacant unit in the building. Maid service was on a daily basis, and consisted of trash removal, and fresh towels for the kitchen and bathrooms. Considering the drought and ecological concerns, this was surprising. The Plaza doesn't recycle (at least I didn't find any recycling bins during our week in the condo) Beds were made by housekeeping, but the sheets weren't changed during our stay. Unit 541 was very comfortable and nicely appointed. The flat panel TV was new, Dish TV service was nice.
Our group appreciated the location of the Iron Horse Tavern on the main floor of the condo building. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, the staff was friendly, and the beer selection was good. We needed 10 large pizzas for a party and the Iron Horse made them for us, easy peasy. And the pizza was GOOD! No leftovers!
Overall, the trip was a success and our group was very pleased with the accommodations, the ski conditions (and fresh powder), and the town of Crested Butte! If I were to travel to Crested Butte again, I would stay at The Plaza Condos again!
