Not only is it a beautiful drive, when driving from Crested Butte to Aspen, Montrose or Grand Junction, it makes the drive shorter!
Closed in the winter months because of road conditions but definitely drive Kebler in the summer months.

Well-traveled dirt road takes you through some beautiful Aspen forest and great mountain views before dropping down into town of Crested Butte.

We drove this pass going from Crested Butte to Aspen. The road was well graded, a bit narrow but perfectly fine for 2 passing vehicles, and easy to drive in a sedan. Lots of dust in places, but that's about it. The scenery was tremendous! I've seen lots of interesting Colorado passes, but driving through the enormous aspen forest was something new and incredibly cool. (I've read that it's Colorado's largest stand of aspens, and one of the largest single organisms in existence, since aspens all share a common root system - also cool!) I can only imagine how spectacular it must be in the fall. Only delayed once- for cows in the road! Very fun.

Please do not be afraid of this scenic highway. Drive slow and enjoy scenery!!! No need for SUV, I took it very cautiously and let others pass me as needed. Absolutely beautiful.

Decided to drive Kebler Pass from Crested Butte, which added almost 3hrs to our drive home. It was pretty but didn't compare to what we had already seen while driving the million dollar highway from Durango to Ouray on the way to Crested Butte. It would be an awesome drive in the fall because there are a lot of aspens. Might also be nice if you catch it during peak wildflower season. Weren't many flowers in the middle of July.
