Drove this route twice. Dirt road but very well maintained. Quite of bit of traffic so stay alert while enjoying the beautiful aspens.

“Aspen Autumn”
Reviewed October 6, 2011

The aspen trees were at their peak golden, autumn splendor. Unbelievable sights. We took a million pictures and many are postcard quality.

“Sightseeing and hiking - perfect together”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

The road from Crested Butte west across the pass is perfectly usable by a normal car as long as there's no snow. The mostly dirt road feels like a washboard at times but has wonderful views of the mountains, Aspens, and evergreens. We stopped at the Lost Lakes campground and hiked the two hour trip around Lost Lake, Silver Dollar Lake, and Slough Lake. Highly recommended although moderately strenuous. No scrambling involved, just an uneven and occasionally rocky trail. The views alone are worth the trip and it's a more fun route from CB across to Somerset. Peak elevation was a benign 9980'. Just be aware this shortcut will take longer than you think because you really can't drive faster than 35 mph.

Kebler Pass is well worth the drive. The flowers along the road, the Aspen forest are all aw-inspiring.
