“Best Lodging in Creede”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

Great Value, ideal location, nice accommodation, friendly staff, clean, plenty of parking, set back away from the road, great onsite restaurant, ATV rentals, Free Internet, DVD's and best of all they are pet friendly!

After shopping around we found Cascada Cabins on the Chamber website and what a find! The cabins are fairly new, lots of space and the price is the same as the other lodging in town but there you only get a small room.

There are four basic types of lodging in this area. There are cabins outside of town but these all require a drive and hassle with parking when coming to town. Motel rooms that are very small. B&B's and the Cascada Cabins. Our friends had told us that it rains most afternoons in Aug so we wanted a place where we could enjoy movie and escape the rain when needed without all sitting on a bed. The cabins were perfect. I sat at the dining table and worked on my laptop while my wife and daughters watched a movie from the couch. Our dogs curled up on the floor in the kitchen.

The queen sized bed in the bedroom was comfortable enough and the door on the room afforded us privacy. The kids slept in the bunk beds and loved it. My wife and I stayed up and watched TV late one night and the kids were fast asleep in the bunks. The cabins have a nice porch where we were able to enjoy the sunset one night. The kitchen has basic utensils and we borrowed a big skillet from the restaurant onsite to cook up some of the fish we caught.

We drive a large truck and we were please to see that the parking lot was large with ample room for our truck and small boat. We were even able to leave the boat parked next to the cabin when exploring the mountains.

The staff was friendly and quick to answer all our questions. The housekeeper was a young girl from Mongolia who was very shy and cleaned our cabin spotless. It got cool one night and she rounded us up a couple extra blankets for the beds.

There is an ATV rental place onsite and we rented ATV's for a 1/2 day and it was a perfect way to explore the mountains!

The restaurant is Mexican. The owner is American who retired here from Texas. She has spent many years living in Mexico during the winter and it shows. The food is reasonably priced, served quickly and tasted authentic.

This was our first vacation in a number of years and we loved Creede. Definitely will be back.

La Cascada has fallen from grace, I’d say. My extended family of 7 rented two cabins for a four-night visit to Creede. We had a great time, apart from the accommodations. There are nice aspects to the place, and we were reasonably comfortable, but the management should take care of more details if they want this place to continue to be one of the best (and most expensive) lodging options in Creede. The management can’t seem to decide if they are operating “cabins” (along the lines of the YMCA Camps of the Rockies) or a motel suite with a kitchen (like Residence Inn). In my mind, this is more motel than cabin.

The cabins are arranged to look out over the restaurant parking lot, just off the main drag. The three cabins are duplexes, actually, so that each unit is actually half-a-cabin. The side windows look out at the next cabin. Ours, on the end, looked out over the highway department vehicle yard. In other words, if you are looking for scenic or quaint, La Cascada is not going to fill that bill. We had reserved weeks in advance, but the beds in the cabin were not made upon arrival. Theoretically, the unit sleeps 6, but only if two sleep on the sofa bed (our teenage son slept on the couch). There is zero storage space for suitcases, so we made do with the floor. The queen bed mattresses in both cabins were concave—not really hotel quality and downright uncomfortable for my 75 year-old father and his lady friend. In one cabin, the shower door did not close (shower is a very cheap, poorly installed model) so water leaked all over the bathroom floor. In the same bathroom, one could not use the hot water without the water pump making the most awful, bone-rattling noise. The “fully-equipped kitchen” lacked plates and any sort of sharp knife or even a can opener or bottle opener, though the nice young people in the adjacent restaurant were happy to oblige with some plates (and thankfully we had brought camping supplies of our own, just in case). Further, there is no daily maid service, which I had expected, given the price of the “cabin” (though we did get fresh towels daily and the trash was removed).

On the positive side, the cabins’ pine interior is attractive, the stove, fridge, and microwave all work just fine, the location is good if you want to be in or near town, the place was clean when we arrived, and the restaurant of the same name offered up some pretty good Mexican fare. We still had a great time in Creede, taking some outstanding hikes and enjoying the Creede Repertory Theater. We’ll very likely be back to Creede, but it’s also likely that we will explore other accommodations.

I want to thank you for the feedback on the Cascada Cabins. We operate nine different businesses in Creede and we strive for excellence in each of the business. The Cascada property is our newest project and it is in the process of transformation. As you can image, progress in a small town is slow and that property has not reached its full potential. Having said that, there is no reason that operational issues like leaky showers and incomplete kitchen utensils should ever occur. I have spoken with the manager and we have taken steps to address these issues.

On the topic of price we offer a full cabin for $125 per night regardless of the number of people in the cabin. There are no other cabins in town which rent by the night and all other accommodations charge the same amount but only for two people and they are limited to one small bedroom. We have only been open three years and we already have a strong following because of the value and space in our cabins.

Ultimately, feedback like yours is the most important tool we have for knowing how we can improve our guests experience and where our processes have failed. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed Creede, CRT and your dining experience at our restaurant. I hope you will give us another chance to impress you next time you travel to our bit of Colorado Mountain Paradise.

Creede turned out to be the true highlight of our trip! We arrived at this cute little mountain town just as the surrounding mountains turned gold with aspens. The Cascada Cabins were a perfect base to explore this area.

The cabins are roomy and very clean - just the right combination of rustic and modern. The cabins were so complete in every way. The maid service was great. Everything was so clean it looked like it was brand new. It has a rustic feel, yet very modern with all the amenities. We loved the showers, they use a on-demand hot water heater which means that it is energy efficient but best of all no matter how many showers you take or how long take you NEVER run out of hot water. A private master bedroom with comfortable bedding provided nice privacy from the rest of the cabin.

The complete and fully equipped kitchen was money saving too. We made a stop at the local grocery store (the k-Belle) and stocked up on our favorite snacks and foods. We prepared wonderful lunches which we took out with us each day in a little cooler. They have an ice maker in the restaurant and they provided ice for our cooler each day. The town is very pedestrian friendly. The Cabins are in a great location to explore the town but are away from all the other tourists and are quiet at night.

There is a restaurant on the properly and one night we ordered for delivery. They brought everything to the room and we enjoyed a nice quiet candle light dinner at the dining room table. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was great! The last day we had lunch in the restaurant before continuing our trip. I would highly recommend eating here when in the area.

The log furniture on the porch allowed us to watch the sunset in the evening while unwinding from the day. Each cabin has a barbeque which we used one night.

Creede was wonderful! The Cascada Cabins were PERFECT!

We are checking out today after staying one week here. The cabins are relatively new and are located at the edge of town. They are set off the road adjacent to the restaurant with the same name.

We were told about these cabins from a number of locals after having a bad experience with another local motel. We were able to rent one cabin for the entire family (4 people) rather than renting one room for us and one for the kids. The great thing was it was half the price.

Our cabin had a large master room with a queen bed. There are two bunk beds which, one we used for our bags and one for our son. They have a full kitchen which we used on a number of occasions for cooking rather than eating out. The full sized refrigerator was great because we could store drinks and snacks. The living area has a large couch which folds out as a queen sleeper where our other child slept. The living area has a reasonable sized TV with full satellite. The rooms didn’t have a phone but our cellular phone worked fine. The dining area has a pellet stove which we didn’t use but may be nice on cool evenings.

The bathroom was small but adequate. They use some sort of demand heater which provides unlimited hot water which was nice with four people. The manager was very nice and helpful with questions. The cabin was clean and they kept it that way through our stay. The free wifi was great for using the computers in the evening.

The location was good because it was within walking distance to the entire town (didn’t have to egt in the car to visit town) BUT far enough away from the bars, bands and noisy people. Definitely our favorite place to stay in Creede. We have already booked for next year.
