“Pleasant Staff, But Filthy Conditions”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

The oily rag that was left on the bed served as an indicative symbol of our stay at this inn.

We stayed one night in the "Bear" room as we traveled cross country. Photos online of the inn make it look quaint, but unfortunately it's run down, antiquated and with the exception of the linens, didn't seem to have been cleaned thoroughly for quite some time. I opened the kitchenette cabinet to get a glass out for water, and it stuck to the cabinet where it was set, as an example.

Carpet didn't seem to have been vacuumed for at least a few weeks, and the bath floors hadn't been wiped down/mopped for at least as long.

The bed was uncomfortable, the mattress had zero support.

The inside of the door to the room has some kind of oily grease on it that you don't want to get on your hands when closing it. Don't know exactly what type of grease it is...

The staff was friendly, I'll give them that. It's also in a great spot logistically. But I would never recommend this place to a friend.

Room Tip: If you stay here, ensure not to stay in #106, the "Bear" room.

I am sorry that your room was less than you expected. If you ever have an issue at any hotel, please contact the Front Desk and give them a chance to resolve it for you. We could have come in and taken care of these issues, or moved you to a more acceptable room.

Beds are also an area where people have extreme differences of opinion. We have Serta mattresses specifically designed for hotels. One guest can think the beds are hard and the next guest in the same room thinks they are too soft. If you need a certain amount of support, we always suggest that you enter the room and lie on the bed for a few minutes to see how it works for you. Again, we can usually change your room if that bed does not suit you.

Know also that our rooms are vacuumed as part of the cleaning process every day. We have had a lot of wind recently that may have blown the autumn leaves into the room. We also clean the floors daily as well, but the housekeeper may not have shaken out the rug based on your picture. We will adress this issue with our staff.

The bottom line is that we apologize that your stay was not what you were expecting.

The Elk Run is an old, strip motel with uniquely decorated rooms, all with full kitchens. We had a "Queen" room (the bed looked kind of small to be called a Queen) which also had a small table with 2 chairs. The tap water in the room had a foul taste so we bought a couple gallons of bottled water for drinking, toothbrushing, etc. We thought our room was fine considering the price and the amenities. Our issue was with the Receptionist. She was a bored 20-something who was not too interested in checking us in. It started with her ignoring us as we came in. Then continued with a hassle over what the room cost was...We had been quoted one rate over the phone by Betty (who was very friendly) and now were being charged another. The Receptionist yawned repeatedly during this exchange, I guess showing us how unimportant we were to her. Honestly, the property was what we expected and I'd probably give it 4 *'s but the Receptionist left a very bad taste in our mouths (worse than the water!)

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry about the water - we are on city water and some people are more suseptable to whatever is used to treat the water. Just know that the water was safe, even if you did not like the taste. Usually when there is a problem with rates it is because there is a miscommunication over what type of room is being discussed. We will speak with our staff to make sure that they reconfirm what type of room the quoted rate is for. As to the attitude of the front desk staff, again I appologize. We will also be reviewing this with our staff to make sure that they realize that the customer is the most important part of their job. I am glad that you enjoyed the room and we hope you will give us another chance if you are back in this area.

The cowboys room is nice and comfortable. Very nice clean Motel. Big fridge, oven, microwave two TV. I love that these rooms are themed and the decorations were pretty neat. I'm sure that I would stay here again.

I stayed for on night at the Elk Run Inn. This is an older motel, small room, however it seems it was newly remodeled. My room had a full size fridge, gas stove and oven, and a microwave with some utensils. The room was clean and comfortable. Also it was dog friendly. I gave it a 4 star as it is not a fancy 5 star hotel but I would not hesitate to stay again.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Each room has a different theme reflecting local items, people or animals. We hope to educate people about NW Colorado while they are here. We hope to see you again if you come through Craig.

Stayed here for one night a couple weeks ago. Had requested the bear room when I made the reservation, but was told it was unavailable at check in and that we would be in the Native American room. I love that these rooms are themed and the decorations were pretty neat. There was a kitchenette and a full size fridge, which was really nice, but other than that the room is sub par. The room was in desperate need of a deep cleaning, the bathroom was TINY, and the TV was small and in an awkward place above the fridge. Overall, it was fine for one night and I love that the rooms are themed, but I'm not sure that I would stay here again.

Thank you for your comments. We strive to keep the rooms clean and apologize if the room you stayed in did not meet your expectations. We will make sure that this rooms is moved to the top of the deep clean list and take care of that. The bathroom size is not something that we can really change, but it is important for guests to know what to expect when they make reservations. Older motels, even those that are extensively remodeled are not for everyone. Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed the kitchens as we are unique in that respect.

Had a great "night away" here. Totally reasonably priced, with all kinds of cute kitchy rooms. We stayed in the bear room. Had a great hand made bear themed quilt on the wall, bear paintings and even a bear bedspread. The kitchen was very well appointed, even had a little oven. The bed was comfy, the service was amazing, the room was quiet. We had a great time. I recommend this hotel if you are near craig or on your way to dinosaur national monument with the family, I got a peek a a great family room here too.

Room Tip: Cougar, bear, cowboy, fishing, eagle, hunting, pioneer, elk, ask about a great themed room for a lot...

We stayed at this motel one night on our way home from visiting relatives. The room was super clean, the bed very comfortable and the management friendly and helpful. There was a full kitchen that was actually equipped with everything needed to prepare and eat a meal which was a very nice change from most "kitchenette" places. We have been living in motels for the past 3 weeks so it was a real treat to be able to eat in for a change. We had good Wifi and TV. The bathroom was small but manageable. We would stay here again if we were in the area.
