Quality Inn South
Ranked #43 of 104 Hotels in Colorado Springs
Reviewed August 8, 2006

We stayed at this hotel on 7/28/06. this hotel is the Comfort inn South, not to be confused with another comfort inn in the area. We had made our reservation about a week before arriving by calling the general comfort inn(choice hotel) 800 number. When we checked in the girl at the desk said that she had a number of walk-ins and someone was inquiring about staying there and there was limited rooms. By evening the hotel was sold out--the desk clerk said she had 40 walk -ins. I did see some guy walk in with a coupon ---the girl said they have these coupon books at Denny's next door and at truck stops. the type of room for the coupon was limited but i think the price was like 79.

The hotel was clean, the room was fine, and the breakfast was decent. Since all we did was sleep there, I could not ask for more. The staff was very pleasant. There are inside corridors which I like and there was an elevator. There also is one computer to use to get on the internet. sometimes you had to wait to use it, but at least it was there. There was also coffee available to drink when it was not breakfast.
Someone said that the food in the area was limited. Not so.
We ate at a good size chili's right acrosss the street. There were a few other places plus some fast food places and dennys.
We were about 10-15 min from the cog railroad for pike's peak(watch the signs on the right side of the road--as we missed the sign and missed our reservation and had to wait to go on the next train) and the garden of the gods. We were right down the street from the 5 star Broadmoor Hotel(worth a vist to see this magnificent hotel complex especially since it is like 5 min away). Also across the street were a number of stores plus we were right near the entrance to the highway. The airforce academy is like 25-30 min north. Try to avoid rush hour as the highway has lots of construction on it and we hit it coming from the airforce academy to the hotel on our arrival day. That day the north bound side had even worse traffic.
We almost did not stay at this hotel because of some negative comments. I would definitely stay there again if I was in that area.
Remember this is a comfort inn, not a 5 star hotel.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfest is good. They are renovating. The carpet in the room was new. The tile on the bathroom floor was new. The carpet in the hallway and elevator was quite old and in definite need of replacement. The shower/tub was as clean as an old style plastic tub with years of use could be. A little thing - the light switch in the bathroom needs to cleaned. The bedspread was old (and stained on the under side when you pulled it back). The sheets clean though definitely old and worn. The bed was comfortable. And even though the hotel is close to the hiway, the room was extremely quiet. For the price, I would not recogmend this hotel - until they do some more renovation. We stayed on the 3rd (top) floor - perhaps they are working they way up?

This is a reasonable enough Comfort Inn in good condition with a good free breakfast. The reception staff were, pleasant, helpful and efficient.

The room was quite well equipped and of a good size but apparently designed by someone who had never stayed in a hotel room with a couple of suitcases. The use of space was extremely poor and it was irritating in that it could have been so much better with just a little thought.

Unlike other correspondents our bed was not good, squeaking and groaning with the slightest movement.

In terms of dining opportunities in the immediate vicinity, forget it unless you want Denny's or a Village Inn.

The hotel is fully wheelchair accessible

Wouldn't stay here again but then i doubt if we'll go to Colorado Springs again.

My stay was picture perfect. The free in-room wireless hi-speed internet was convenient and the free breakfast was delicious and well attended. The pool and the hot tub were awesome and the facilities overall were as best as it can be. I would stay there again without hesitation. The King Size Bed room had one of the most comfortable matresses I ever slept on. Nice big TV, micro, coffee maker, desk and chair with A/C outlet in the lamp (awesome spot to plug in your notebook pc), fridge and full size ironing board were handy. The staff on duty, particularly the management..... great job! Thank you so much!

Having been in other hotels in this city, I'll likely stay here again. For a moderate price, the room was average, the location good, and the pool was great. The room could have been larger and so could the beds. The carpet could stand to be replaced as well. But on the plus side, the rooms had microwaves and refrigerators, were clean, and the staff was helpful and friendly.

The large pool and spa are indoors in a lovely bright room and the kids loved it. The continental breakfast was fairly decent too.

This used to be one of our favorites, and with its recent remodeling, it's even better than we remembered it.

During one of our visits to Colorado Springs in 1993, we found the Hampden Inn near Circle Drive and I-25. It was a moderately priced haven where we kept returning for years to come. It was very convenient to Seven Falls, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Southgate shopping center. It was even adjacent to a Hardees, a 7-Eleven, and a Dennys. Nice pool, coin laundry, friendly people, great memories.

Fast forward to September 2005. I redeemed some Choice points for a one-night stay in south Colorado Springs, but it wasn't until we arrived that I realized the old Hampden had been remodeled into this Comfort Inn. The Hardees is now a Carls Jr., but the 7-Eleven and the Dennys are still there, and now there are lots of restaurants (Chilis, Fazolis, etc.) and stores across the street. It's still just a little tricky to navigate the side road, but easy once you get the hang of it.

The Comfort Inn lobby transformed with an inviting western motif. The breakfast area is larger than ever. For our stay, it included biscuits and gravy and toaster-style French toast (but only bananas for fruit).

The pool is still there, and now a small exercise room and small hot tub have been added. The coin laundry is there; it can be a great benefit during extended stays. And every common area was noticeably clean.

In the room, the remodeled bathroom included multiple mirrors, new floor tiles, and a shower that actually separates spray volume and temperature into separate controls. The room was modest but comfortable, and it included a refridgerator and microwave. Wide-open wireless Internet access also worked great.

The only disappointment for our stay was the television service. LodgeNet offered about a dozen recent films, and there were three channels of Showtime, but there were drawbacks. There were only about 24 channels in all. The Headline News channel had a Dish Network "you need to subscribe to get this" card. Some of the Colorado Springs local channels weren't available. Our TV had a light interference pattern no matter what network we watched.

Particularly considering we were staying for free, every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. I think this hotel has once again become one of our Colorado Springs favorites.
