A significant disappointment. Our food came out very irregularly. Three pastas-as-entrees arrived w appetizer. Two pastas-as-entrees arrived with remaining three entrees. Several of our side vegetables arrived after entrees were finished. Zucchini pizza had a total of five slices of zucchini, but oil from pesto was so ample the slices couldn't be picked up. Sent that one back. Lasagna was mediocre and far from hot. Veal was dry. Side of snap peas also was way over- oiled. Swordfish and chicken were excellent, however.

Servers did not appear to be trained by The Broadmoor. Simple courtesies such as removing plates individually rather than stacking them on table were lacking.

Our dessert presentations were beautiful but not exceptionally tasteful.

The design of the restaurant diminishes the beauty of the lake and outdoors; rather, the open kitchen is the dominant feature, which I feel creates a stressful atmosphere. A far cry from the simple elegance of Charles Court.

I cannot fathom why this is the replacement for Charles Court. A return visit for us is highly doubtful.

The Broadmoor Hotel is always "over the top," as you'd expect from a property that has held its Four Star and Four Diamond ratings longer than any other on the planet. And it is BIG on authenticity, as when it decided the only way to put a British pub on the premises was to buy a disassembled London Pub and reassemble it in Colorado Springs. So it should be no surprise that they bought a centuries-old Italian villa just to get the floor tiles right in the new Ristorante del Lago, or that they sent their chefs to live and study in Italy and develop a network of Italian food suppliers from the old country - just to ensure everything is absolutely authentic. The payoff is huge, as Ristorante del Lago may just be the best Italian restaurant outside of Italy. When was the last time you enjoyed fresh Mozarella cheese that is made on the premises? One can only imagine the training program the staff went through, as every server is able to wax poetic about the virtues of various cheeses, meats, pastas, wines and peasant style breads baked in the kitchen. The dishes represent the very best cuisine from all over Italy, accenting the regional differences, and are served in a multiplicity of courses that allows you to graze your way across the country. The villa-style restaurant itself is breath taking, with giant windows pushing away to open the entire restaurant onto the hotel's lake - hence Ristorante del Lago. While the by-the-glass wine list is amazing, the extensive selection of bottles is eclectic, diverse and unique; trust the staff to recommend just the right vino for each and every course - from the organic heirloom tomato and fresh mozzarella salad, to veal specialties, to pastas, cheeses and desserts. A lakefront table for two could be the most romantic and perfect meal ever. Not to be missed!
