“Great food, wonderful owner!”
Reviewed July 26, 2014

We had a great time at Uchenna on the 24th of July! The food was wonderful. Complex flavors, artfully prepared.
What really made our meal special was the owner. Seeing our hungry party of 10 (including 4 children), she brought out a few things for us to sample while we waited on our entrees. She reappeared several times during the meal to check on us, and sent us home with a few desert items for the road.
This place definitely deserves it's #1 status!

“A Unique Dining Experience!”
Reviewed July 26, 2014 via mobile

I'm so glad my husband and I are purveyors of seeking out and trying local restaurants in our travels! So many restaurants to choose from, so little time :-) We were passing through beautiful Colorado Springs in the middle of a long day of driving, and were ecstatic to discover this opportunity to sample Ethiopian dining fare in an establishment that has received such warm and positive reviews. I have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. From the ambience and decor to the service and food, we did not leave disappointed. We decided to try the lamb tibs with misser aleche and the golem besaega, both served with traditional injera. Such a complex combination of spices, and eaten in the tradition of scooping up bites of food using torn pieces of injera - no flatware. Sorry, but this was refreshing for us :-) The proprietor greeted us at the table, she was very friendly. Altogether a pleasant experience.

“A weak variation on Ethiopian food”
Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

While we make no claim to being experts in Ethiopian cuisine we have sought out these restaurants in our travels, so it is familiar to us. we were happy to find that there was such a restaurant now in Colorado Springs.

We were treated with loving care while we dined and found the variation in how the food was served (individual plates instead of communal platter) interesting. However, the food itself was the worst Ethiopian we have ever had. The injera (bread) seemed to be a wheat bread as opposed to the luscious soft white spongy that we prefer. The beef was dry and chewy; the doro wat chicken was tender and nicely prepared but had minimal spice. If you have never had Ethiopian we recommend it and trying it here is fine, but please know that there are other ways to prepare and serve the food.

“Amazing!! What a wonderful experience. .”
Reviewed July 17, 2014

The food was truly outstanding and alive with flavor. We went there based on the reviews but it was far better than expected.

Maya, the owner is a wonderful, warm hearted person who loves to cook and it shows in every bite.

Even if you are not real adventurous I suggest you try this restaurant. The food is not overly spicy but had a fragrance that passed on to the palate.

Highly recommended!! Our first 5-star rating but well deserved.
