While travelling to DC, we discovered the wondrous experience of Ethiopian cuisine. Once home to Colorado I web searched hoping to find anything within a days drive, and was thrilled to find Uchenna just up the road in Old Colorado City. If you haven't tried Ethiopian food, please stop what you are doing and go now. The bread is a little exotic, gluten-free, and the primary eating utensil. (You won't find this stuff at the grocery store.) The food starts with good, honest, familiar vegetables and meats. What makes it all take off is the spices. Oh the smell and the flavor of the spices! Chef Maya makes it all personal, more like her home than a restaurant, and more of a calling than a business. This is good food. Go. Go now.

We were on a major driving trip with friends and found this place on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed! We felt like family from the start. The Ethopian bread was the most unusual I have ever eaten. Our only regret is that we were passing through and unable to eat there again!

You'd never find this place if you weren't looking for it--but I'm glad a friend knew of it because it was delicious. It was great to try something other than the usual plain old American/Italian/Mexican food and yet have it still be really delicious.

The owner is very welcoming with a big smile and happily educates you on how to eat your food, if you need it.

Most of us had the doro wat chicken and it was great. Plenty of food to fill you up too so portion sizes were nice. The lentils were probably the best I've ever had. Someone in our party had the chicken tibs--snagged a piece of her plate and I think that's what I'll get next time. :-) And there WILL be a next time! I just wish they had a liquor license as a glass of wine would have been a welcome addition.

This is a super cute hole in the wall local biz. The staff is bar none the sweetest most welcoming group in the springs. They totally accommodated for my 3 yr old and my 1 yr old. The food was awesome and adventurous. The coffee was amazing. Highly recommend a visit and we will be back for sure.

We went to Uchennas restaurants with friends after researching the restaurants in Colorado Springs.
We could not have had a more wonderfull and complete dining experience. From the moment you walk in and get the magnificent aromas, to the lovely welcoming decor and waiters.
The food was fabulous and our waiter guided us through the menu. The Ethiopian bread was like nothing we have ever eaten.
Maya the owner was such a lovely and humble person who gives a lot of love through her food. Just meeting and talking with her was inspiring.
This is a must do food experience you will carry forward for a long time
