This was our first experience eating Ethiopian Food. Don’t turn away even though it is in a strip mall. The smells when you step inside are awesome. We met the owner Maya (sweetest gal ever) and she recommended a couple of items, which did not disappoint. Currently they have waiting for you samples of the lemon rosewater and orange blossom water, then you can purchase if you want a full pint. We ordered the orange water but both were very good. We ordered family style: Doro Wat (chicken), Lamb and Beef tibs - meat combination plates (and the sides that come with it including Miser Alecha - lentils) I really liked the lamb and beef tibs. That easily feeds four. The food was quite good. I am just not sure how often I would crave Ethiopian food, but I would definitely go back if we visited the area again, to try the other items, especially after reading other reviews. As a side note: Be prepared to eat with your hands (it adds to the experience) so take hand sanitizer!

Chef Maya has made our visit to Uchenna amazing. The food was excellent, well worth the travel time to the Westside of Colorado Springs, in Old Colorado City. I would recommend this tiny treasure to anyone who wants something out of the chain restaurant box. The flavors were outstanding, and the homemade desserts were authentic and most delicious. We will be back, and were looking forward to seeing Maya and her staff. Tiny place with big hearts.. Love It!

Tired of eating tasteless foods in popular restaurant franchises? This place is for you.
After a train ride in Cañon City, we stopped by Colorado Springs in this small kitsch restaurant. Knowing nothing about Ethiopian cuisine, we thought that holidays are perfect for new experiences.
Maya, the owner, cooked up a storm for us! Seeing that we spoke French, and that we were not locals, she has concocted typical dishes of her native village, with the presentation plate in the
middle of the table - eat with your fingers, etc.. What exquisite flavors she made us discover!
She greeted us with much love and attention - as if we were in her house, in spite of having a full restaurant. A woman with unusual emotional intelligence.
This place is an oasis in the desert. This was for us a unique and memorable experience.

I can not decide which was more amazing; the amazing authentic Ethiopian cuisine or the owner/chef/hostess Maya. What an amazing woman doing amazing things. Will be back for sure.

Never visit colorado springs without trying this crowded tiny restaurant. The food is as amazing that the persons that share them with you. The spices, the colors, the tastes are stunning.
PS : we offered the chef to come an open a restaurant in Paris where she would become a multi- millionaire! Her answer ? She already turned an offer down once : then we will be back in CoSring !
