Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is unique, probably for being one of the "highest" (over 6,000 feet) to be found. Amazing that the animals all adjust to it, and to the extreme cold in winter. Quite diverse and covers a large area and has many special exhibits during the year. I particularly liked the fruit bats exhibit several years ago. If you want even more exercise, you can climb up the nearby Will Rogers Shrine and have a tremendous view of the city down below.

I visited this zoo on my own, while my husband was attending a work related conference. Naturally, zoos attract children, so it's a great place for families! The terrain is quite hilly, but not so much as the San Diego Zoo and not quite as large. There is a golf car shuttle that seats at least four people and can be rented for $2 a day. It's an on and off shuttle and mine had a friendly, informative driver. There is also a sky ride, if you'd like an aerial view of the park. There is a nice lookout point at the top that reminded me of the lookout at the top of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. I saw moose and grizzly bears and wolves, along with more giraffes than I've seen at any other zoo. And I really enjoyed the otters exhibit! Those rascals could keep me entertained all day! The public can feed the giraffes and the children I watched really found that to be a fun experience! There are plenty of places for you to stop and rest, as needed, and there is a snack bar and restrooms. And, of course, a nice gift shop! I spent about two hours at the zoo, but families will probably need more time.

Great place to go, even without kids! Wonderful views, good exercise, and good dining options. The Overlook bistro was by far the best zoo meal we've ever eaten - fresh salad, pizza and drinks in a unique setting. Excellent zoo!

I loved feeding the giraffes, but I also really liked where the Zoo was located. Very nice layout for the size of the Zoo, and great opportunities for taking pictures!
