This zoo may be smaller than some zoos, but the location on the side of the mountain is very relaxing and there are some great views of Colorado Springs. There are some great exhibits now, too. The African Rift Valley where you can feed the giraffes is right in the front and definitely the highlight of the zoo. Spend the $1 and get 3 crackers to feed to the giraffes - right at your eye level.
Also, the new Rocky Mountain Wild exhibit has great mountain lions, a moose, otters, wolves, etc. It's a bit of a workout to climb through the zoo, but I enjoy it. There are a nice number of baby animals born at the zoo recently, too - baby tiger, baby orangutan, baby gorilla and baby giraffes.

The zoo offers one of the best views of the city. That's the nicest thing I can say about it. We paid to ride the tram (or at least, they SAID there was a tram!) In the three hours we walked up mountainous pathways, we saw one tram. Needless to say, this little tram was full to capacity!
We went early in the day, but still spent the entire time tripping over or being run over by strollers. Every stroller in the state must have been there that day, all driven by rude people with cell phones in their hands and no respect for the rights of others.
The animals were mostly hiding in the shade, fast asleep. The only worthwhile exhibit we saw were the giraffes, but giraffes aren't worth the frustration!

This zoo is not huge, but is so clean and the animal areas are very large and nice. The new grizzly bear exhibit literally puts you within a couple of feet of the bears. The budgie buddies exhibit is not to be missed, my kids loved it! And don't forget to do the Mountaineer sky ride while you are there. We got lost on the way to the zoo, but it was definately worth the extra 30 minutes of driving around to find it!

I thought the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo rivaled our Fort Worth Zoo in many ways. The exhibits were much better. The animals sure seemed happy. Especially the hippos and giraffes. We really enjoyed the ski lift as well! Well worth $5 for the day. There are only 2 restaurants though, so get close to one before lunch time! There is a lot of up and down walking, but you should expect that at a mountain zoo. I loved the wild deer and chipmunks that roamed the zoo. Very freindly staff. Get a $5 t-shirt at the membership desk!

We recently were on vacation in Colorado and decided to take the kids to the zoo. So glad we did! We all loved it. Feeding the giraffes was a highlight for the kids. The highlight for me was watching the grizzly bear swim in the water. We watched through the glass and loved it. I wish we had a local zoo like this! If you are thinking of going you should! So many things to see and a wonderful view of Colorado Springs!!
