We try to visit at least one zoo on every trip we go on and I have to say this is one of the better and unique zoos we've visited. The giraffe feeding was very cool. I don't recall ever being that close to a giraffe before. Yes, there are some steep hills to walk, however the zoo is built on the side of Cheyenne Mountain...what did you expect? There is a ski lift that you can take to the highest part of the zoo. The zoo is well laid out and the animal exhibits are easy to see the animals in.

I am a big fan of zoos in general, but this one is particularly great. We went with the express purpose of feeding the giraffes, which is such a neat experience. They are gentle and interested, and they take the crackers out of your hand with these long muscular black tongues. Petting a giraffe on the nose is not an everyday experience, for sure.

The rest of the zoo is really great as well. The enclosures are designed in a way that you always get a really good view of the animals. It feels much more interactive than a lot of zoos. We were on a bit of a time crunch, so we had to skip a lot of the animals. It is definitely somewhere I'd like to go back to one day.

If you are a zoo fan, you will like this zoo. Wear your walking shoes- the zoo is spread out over a huge area. There are places you can sit and enjoy a simple picnic- not sure if they allow bringing in your own food or not. There are places to buy all kinds of snacks, etc. Do buy the tram pass- that is fun in itself riding the tram around the zoo, and getting on and off. And if you have kids, do spend the money and ride on the Sky High- its like a ski lift ride. There is free parking. Arrive early if you don't want to park far away. After riding the Sky High ride to the top, you can get off right away and enjoy restrooms, shop, playground and climbing equipment. Then come down when you're ready. If you buy a season pass, it will be a much more enjoyable time if you visit this zoo in smaller amounts of time- like 2 hours. If you are going only once and want to see it all, then do plan on spending 4 or more hours. Pace yourself. Take sunscreen.

This was our first trip there. We were fascinated with feeding the giraffes. The 15-20 giraffes were at eye level eating lettuce right out of your hand. Be sure to ride the chair lift for a fantastic view of the zoo and Colorado Springs.

All ages enjoyed this zoo and it was winter time (off season). Feeding the giraffe's was awesome. The otters were a blast. They played and swam forever. It wasn't over-crowded. The Penguin's need a snow machine however but hopefully that will come soon. Loose peacocks and deer added to the nature feel. We heard the Hippo grunt or whatever they do. The wolf howled at closing to end a great day!
